Gathering speed and my gripes with pointless numbers.

in Artisanship
With every stat used in combat it's easy to find how they improve your ability to do something. Except for artisan stuff. At first I thought a higher lumberjacking speed would double the speed at 100. Then after reaching that number I saw no difference. I was told that it's possible to reach into the 1000+ and only then would it mean something.
I can't confirm if that's the case. I love crafting and gathering systems in games. But I think for most people who play games. Seeing a number get higher isn't our main goal unless that number achieves something in short term and long term. I had spent the majority of my time trying to achieve a higher gathering speed for lumber as all tools need it. But at the moment I've achieved just shy of 250 lumberjacking speed. It still takes the same amount of time to chop a single novice tree even with a uncommon apprentice axe and three apprentice bags.
Presumably at the start you have a 0 in that speed as nothing is there with the starting axe. I've bug reported the lack of increase in speed every week. As I can't confirm if this is intended, an oversight, or what I hope is a bug.
As it stands the only reason you'd invest rarer materials into your equipment for artisan stuff is for a higher durability. Which means a higher repair cost for said tool, at least from what I've observed in testing. My issue is that giving a item a number without a clear expectation of what that number means leads to confusion and frustration. 100 feels like 0 is a bad feeling. Especially if 1 feels like 1 in every other stat. Like constitution gives you a easily seen number with a higher HP.
I'm posting this in hopes to gain some insight on the communities thoughts. Maybe a different perspective that sheds some light on things. Or just find others who also love crafting and want to see improvements towards the system of AoC.
