Leveling new players

The way it is setup now is completely dumb. I wasn't able to play with my friend when I was level 15 and he was 1 and when he got within 9 levels of me it was still absolutely horrible for him to play with me and made it to where I had to leave party and heal him and give him mana as a bard to allow him to get full xp then we realized I could do about 1/3-2/3 hp and let him do the rest so he got full xp but again why is the new player heavily penalized and not higher level player trying to help the new player level. I understand a bit about not wanting players to "Skip" the leveling experience but honestly it's going to happen we did it but just had to do it in a dumb way that wasn't fun be needed to happen to then have fun together. Simple solution is just make the high level not get credit for anything below 9 lvls of him if you keep the 9 lvl and the low player gets full xp I don't understand the whole low level gets so much lower xp than the higher level player just makes the higher lvl player lvl faster.

Blown past falling sands…
I get that Intrepid wants people to grind up themself, but then again its an MMO, and if you have higher lvl friends that are willing to sacrifice their time to help you, you shouldn't get punished for that.
I think it would be fine if you don't get EXP from higher lvl Mobs, so they can't take you with a lvl 1 char to a place with lvl 15 Mobs and power lvl you there. But if they help you clear lvl 3 mobs, i don't see a reason why you should get lower EXP with the low char.
Rogue will be introduced next phase, same time as a full wipe of all characters so for a while at least will be on the same level.
I think a mentor system is the most ideal long term solution, but I imagine that is pretty low on the priorities list at this point in the Alpha.
It may be a little harder because of their choices in terms of base stats and how Accuracy is calculated, but those things might change, and even if they don't, they still have a reference or two.
But scaling/syncing is a bunch of fiddling and balancing, there's no way it would be ready yet, especially when it's so much easier to solve it by just 'the higher level player makes a new character to play with the lower level one', at this stage.
Why not just start a new character with him? That's what i did with my buddy that just started this weekend. Good opportunity to try a new class too. I let him get to level 6 on his own so he could have his first player experience and mess with his skill trees and stuff and then i quickly got a tank to level 6 and started with him.
You answered your own question. They don't want power leveling in the game so no, the lower level character doesn't get full experience.
