Better System than corruption?

Low-level players who are targeted by higher-level gankers could receive a divine blessing in the form of a curse cast by the gods or goddesses. This curse would gradually sap the ganker's health, ticking away at their HP until it drops to a certain threshold, making the fight more even and giving the lower-level player a fighting chance. The curse serves as a way to level the playing field, allowing the underdog to potentially defeat their attacker, all while adding an element of fun for both players.
Additionally, if the lower-level player—or any allies in the area—successfully defeat the ganker, they could earn a special buff for the day. This buff could persist for a set period, boosting their experience gain or providing other perks to help accelerate their leveling. This system would not only reward players for standing up to griefers, but it would also encourage more PvP encounters, fostering a dynamic and engaging world where players are incentivized to challenge one another.

Corruption is temporary and you can avoid most of the consequences of it by playing in a group. A debuff that functionally kills someone on its own isn't needed or a positive addition.
Slap a small area of untargetability around divine gates and embersprings and that's fine for newbie protection and anti-spawn camping measures.
I like the idea of God's interfering tho. For a long time I've been thinking about how to make the corruption system more interesting, but the problem is that you don't want to make it "cool" in any way or incentivize going corrupt
