Each time you log-in to the game lobby. You are always presented a random Server. (In my case a EU Server, even though I am NA) The game lobby should remember the last Server you played with your character. I have to change realms every time I log in and pick the server with my character.
In the dialog menu when changing realms. Their is no indication if a current character exists on that server until you choose it as your realm.
