Cleric's conflagrate spell (Smite)

Since cleric's don't really have much of a damage abilities, I think the option to spend a skill point so that smite procs conflagrate to adjacent targets would be a great synergy addition to the cleric kit.
I find myself AoEing and herding mobs stacking burn but do not have the option to consume it unless its one target.
Since blessings fire debuff can apply to multiple targets while on melee i figured it would make sense if smite could do the same.
Thank you for your time.

Requiring a skill point investment I think would be a good tradeoff to smite consuming nearby burning debuffs as well, maybe up to 2, with another skill point increasing the limit. Make it more of a commitment to damage vs another healing utility.
Alternatively, could make the skill branch to consuming nearby burning debuffs for a boosted conflagrate on a single target.
I do assume that more of a unique and multi dimensional play style will come as higher levels and multi classing are available.
