One Handed vs Two Handed Swords

So I have been playing fighter with a one handed sword as opposed to the typical two handed greatsword mostly everyone has been playing with. (I should note that I have not been using a shield in my offhand either, which I know offers no benefit afaik, however I think it should in terms of more mobility and maybe evasion) I am now level 10 and thus far the only difference I notice is that the attack speed is faster and you have more maneuverability during basic attacks with a trade off on damage. What are the disadvantages and advantages to using a one handed sword as opposed to a greatsword? Should there be pros and cons for both? I would like to see agile one handed sword fighters as a viable option that can compete even with more tanky hard hitting fighters. What are your thoughts?
