Question/discussion on leveling

First time playing this weekend.
Made a mage, everything was straightforward how to mechanically play and is good.
However few things I noticed with leveling:
Quests seem to still be a work in progress as I ran into several areas where the mobs simply werent spawning or did not spawn sufficiently enough for the players there. I also ran into 'ghost mobs' I'd call them, I saw the mob model and could target it but couldnt attack it.
Grinding doesnt seem viable due to the relatively low amount to exp you get.
If you've got a guy with lets say a bow following you around tagging everything as you cast on it, you get nothing. I'd call this a form of griefing personally.
There's no real flow going place to place, which can be fine for feeding into the adventure aspect of this game. However I found myself wandering aimlessly not making much progress much of the time, felt bad simply.
Best exp was farming the pop-up quests (world quests/fates/whatever you wanna call them) and just doing those over and over. Sure games probably not meant to be played optimally but I'd call it out of touch to not expect it from mmo players.
Just want to know what other thought, especially on feeling 'aimless' at times or best leveling methods. Tell me if I missed an npc for a chain of quests or anything else noteworthy.

What level are you 5? Farming those quests is not nearly the best xp. I can get quadrupple that in 1 pull.
Again.. You dk how to grind apparently?
Whoever does the most dmg gets the kill..
Its a sandbox.. And there is a flow - but you're not paying attention or looking for it...
Those 1star L14 Bears are like 2k a pop!
