IM TRYIN SO HARD TO LIKE AOC... BUT...

GANKLORDGANKLORD Member, Alpha Two
my english is bad sry. i bought 375doll. pack. i was extremely hyped i followed every video, stream about aoc. and i belived in this game but reality is much different from what i expected.

so how the reality feels for me:
i go in game and everytime i need to deal with ridiculous engine optimization.. im on rtx 4090 and game is unresponsive , looks VERY blurry even on native 4k.. everytime some of my keybindings are missing. i cant play game in fullscreen mode because game goes in 4090x something at 24fps... after i deal with performance bs im at point ok lets play the game.. some quests work some dont and i cant tell which one works before doing them and then realising i cant even finish them. my inventory have 10x duplicate quest items etc... so im like ok... lets farm then, combat is TRAGEDY , i played wow for 20 years and im used to have total responsivenes in movement and skill use.. aoc is so far from being responsive that its another thing why i dont even want to play.. if i didnt have overkill pc i would be like ok my pc isnt enough... but it is enough.. game lags all the time, if i turn 180 i will get stutter everytime (game instaled on m.2 disc....) you can literyly see how unresponsive game is even in character creator or character screen where you choose what character to play, you click on one and mf takes ages to react and go in front.. its so sad for me to say but 20 years old wow vanilla was smooth af.. and aoc is so far from that smoothnes, you can argue its alpha. but all i see them adding new broken stuff, fixing some old but NO PERFORMANCE FIXES. GAME SHOULD RUN BUTTER ASMOOTH ON RTX 4090 BUT IT DOESNT.. AT THIS POINT IM ALLREADY CLOSING THE GAME... TRYING NEXT WEEK AND REALISING ITS SAME.. i dont want to sht on game , i realy want to play it but when i come home from work and want to chill a little, aoc cant give me that quality time.. its only struggle.. im just sad from this tbh.. and dont even get me started on pvp... because world pvp and ganking is only reason i play mmo games... but steven feel the need to protect few players who are scared to die, so everyone else need to by on corruption systemm... thats so stupid.. remove coruption and remove item drops from dead bodies.. worst thing you can introduce to mmo is any form of restrictions.. so im gonna say it, i dont like the game as it is.. and im sad because i want to like it..

Feels like you are trying too hard to like it.
If you dont like it - wait till phase 2. Phase 1 is dedicated to servers stability and performance.
For quests - you just make bug report and move on, this is expected for alpha.
for corruption - it is being changed EVERY week. But ye i think it needs to be revamped.

Im using a RX6800 at 4k with custom settings and the game is perfectly fine at about 55fps avg.

I understand you might be used to maxing out everything with a 4090. But from other 4090 users have told me it cant even do 1440p at 120fps native. You might just have to dial things back.

The Alpha is not a graphically optimized, the focus is network systems and bug hunting.

All that aside the game is not a 'Gankbox" so judging by you user name you probably picked the wrong game to test in the first place

I'm using a 4070 and running at around 70 fps on high settings at 4k. Sounds like you have another issue rather than the game being 'un-optimised'. Did you ever stop and think that something is wrong on your end when everyone else is playing fine?

There's a little bit of un-responsivenes I've found with charge based abilities, but other than that everything feels pretty snappy to me. This will definitely be something that's being work on from a networking and performance perspective, which is the purpose of this phase.

I've seen a good handful of people who dropped $300-500, and seem to be totally clueless about the PvP dynamics that have been planned since 2017 regarding the corruption system. What happened to making an informed purchase?

    Welcome to ALPHA.

We paid to test some broken software and that's what we are all experiencing.

I recommend dialing back your GPU settings and expectations.

I am sleeping 2-3hours a day when the servers are up. There is something worth while here. I hope you find that next time you get in game.

Just a thought from a non-english native speaking person myself. Place your thoughts in ChatGPT and let it write your post for you. Just a lot more structured. Right now it's just a block of feelings and emotions.

    ChatGPT version of your post;

"I’m having significant issues with the game that make it very hard to enjoy, despite having a high-end system (RTX 4090). Here’s my experience:

    Performance Issues:
    • The game struggles with optimization. Even on native 4K, the visuals look blurry, and the game becomes unresponsive at times.
    • Fullscreen mode is unusable—it defaults to an odd resolution (4090x something) and runs at 24fps.
    • Stutters are constant, especially when turning quickly, despite the game being installed on an M.2 drive.
    • Even in menus like the character creator or selection screen, there’s a noticeable delay. This lack of responsiveness is frustrating.

    Questing Problems:
    • Some quests work; others don’t. I can’t tell which ones are broken until I attempt them and realize I can’t complete them.
    • My inventory is cluttered with duplicate quest items, which adds to the frustration.

    Combat Responsiveness:
    • The combat system feels sluggish and unresponsive compared to games like World of Warcraft, which has set a standard for smoothness in movement and skill usage.
    • The delay in responsiveness makes combat feel more like a chore than an enjoyable experience.

Lack of Progress on Core Issues:
While I understand the game is in alpha, it’s concerning that development seems focused on adding new, often broken features, rather than addressing critical performance issues.
A game running on an RTX 4090 should feel buttery smooth—it doesn’t.

    PvP Concerns:
    • The corruption system feels overly restrictive and detracts from the open-world PvP experience. I prefer PvP to be more dynamic and free-flowing, without penalties or item drops for dying. These restrictions make the experience less enjoyable for players like me, who are here for the thrill of world PvP.

At this point, I find myself repeatedly closing the game out of frustration, only to try again a week later and realize nothing has improved. I genuinely want to enjoy the game, but it feels like a constant struggle rather than a relaxing escape.

I hope these issues are addressed because I’m sad to say, as it stands, I don’t enjoy the game. I want to love it, but it needs significant improvement to reach its potential."

i understand i might have unrealistic expectations. because im used to wow smoothnes. but i feel like nothing was done in this reggard since first a2 week to today. people saying this test is aimed on server /game performance but i dont feel ANY improvements on this. maybe on low ressolutions game is smoother. but im by far not only one who play at 4k, if game runs (maxed) only 60 fps on rtx 4090, i see it as bad optimization. my system is totaly fresh reinstaled, it have nothing running in background to slow game down... and i realy think that atleast first 30 quests should be working.. i understand that high lvl quest dont work. but atleast those starting quests should work. or atleast remove those quest that cant be finished...

I am also playing on a 4090 and do not have the issues you are having. I am curious, are you located in the EU and trying to do the alpha on an NA server? I ask because I am NA playing on an NA server with the highest settings without issues so I am trying to figure out the difference......

full fresh windows instal after formating , complete empty disc drives, fresh aoc download, instaled on m.2 , newest gpu drivers. EVERY action i do, i feel delay , and 60 fps on 4090 is not normal when ngl game dont look great or even clean... its blurry. dialing graphics down shouldn be a solution.. game actualy need to look better since release is years from now and it allready looks outdated... i dont have this problems with responsivenes in any other game.

Have you reported this? Perhaps it is a conflict specific to you and your computer? Are others reporting the same thing?

All I can say is that I am also using a 4090 and have none of the issues you are mentioning.

dlaa may clear some edges yes, but dlaa is demanding and im allready strugling with "low" fps

lets be honest guys... game is very demanding for how it looks.. i blame it on optimization. my concern is that i dont notice any improvemenst on this. yes mobs dont glide on ground anymore etc.. but responsivenes is realy bad when compaded to decades old games. if i use fireblast in wow classic. its used instantly and damage number pops right when i use that skill and mobs hp is deducted instantly and I CAN FEEL IT BEING USED AS I PRESS BUTTON.. not in aoc. there IS delay on everything.. on hp calculation, on damage numbers pop up, on skill use, even just spamming strafe (A D) feels bad. i think i just need to wait for better version of game, but i expected more from ue5/aoc.

  • CaerylCaeryl Member, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
My rig isn't nearly so up to date, but I haven't had any issues with delays and the game generally runs with smooth frames until I get into a really populated. Input delays are likely an ISP or network issue either on your end or somewhere on the route to Intrepid's servers, but they're not because of your graphics card.

  • I am sorry that you are not having a good time right now but what you are experiencing is a real fringe case. This is what alpha means things will be broken, report everything you can via the ticket system and hope for the best. The devs are trying their best to keep up with the bugs and eventually they will but in alpha you should be ready to fill 20 tickets per day if you really want to help. This is not your average AAA game that is in "alpha" and will be launched in 3 months this will take time. Be patient and don't be discouraged ^^
The way you look upsets the balance between life and death.

I didn't see any mention of the other parts in the PC, this could be a limiting factor.

A 4090 with a budget CPU (i5/Ryzen 5) would be a base level, and maybe that's not the issue, maybe it s a driver update? Maybe its a driver backdate?

The facts are my Ryzen 7 laptop with an RX 7700S plays the game fine at 1080 and can do it at 1440 with lower settings, where as my RX 6800 XT with an I7 10700k plays it just fine at high setting @ 1440.

My Sons 4080 has issues but he's also got an i5 12 series k processor. Configurations and drivers matter, its alpha so it a good time to test these things, but not liking the game because its in alpha and is not optimized is a bit overboard.

I'm sure most of us are enjoying the game but, those of us who are not are maybe thinking this is a game to play instead of a game to test. Testing implies that its not finished and is needed. I for one go do weird things like jump in corners, and test aggro ranges, I try to break stuff on purpose, that's the point of an alpha.

I think you would enjoy it more if you looked at it as an opportunity to help shape it into the best game it can be, and lean less into the fact that it's not fun.

I would come back with driver versions, full PC specs, brand of said 4090, tasks running while playing etc. That would be helpful to the developers.

True its could be the CPU for sure...

    Or bad RAM...

I have had some similar issues as @GANKLORD just the other day (nov17) it was not so much as rubberbanding but more of a constant skip I would move forward 3 or 4 horse lengths then a skip, my frame rates were bouncing pretty bad going into the 20s when normally I run 100 to 140 with the occassional dip into the 90s.
I play on a 7800x3d with an AMD 7900 XTX 1440p ultra settings and my internet is a Gig up and a Gig download speed. The problem stopped when the in game wind effect stopped i noticed the flowers weren't blowing in the wind they were vibrating like tuning forks.

I do agree though that he could be getting bottlenecked on the cpu side or not enough ram bad stick etc.

I remember when WoW came out, it was rough. This game is a year away. I have a high-end rig, and the game doesn't look polished...because the game is a year or more away from going live. Inside, we all wanted a little more than we had seen, even if we knew it was an Alpha. I did, for sure. The game will be super good eventually, but not right now. I'm sorry for your frustration. Hang in there!

WoW combat is dated AF, if you like it that's fine and if your been been playing it 20 years I could understand the ingrained brain rot WoW combat could do a person. GW2 combat is better and Ashes feels better than GW2 in terms of weight and pace. The movement handicap when using certain abilities is fine and allows melee to gap close on ranged so its helps with class balance and group PVP engagement.
