Is this TOS? Auto-Attacking / "AFK" attacking.

So asking also so I get to understand the rules as well, we were playing and doing quests when we ran to a quest NPC location, but we could not deliver the quest because a bunch of 19+25 lvl players were just standing in place, basic attacking for hours and killing the Quest NPC which we had to talk to but couldn't because of it, we went back the day after and the same players were in the same place doing the same again, I included the video of it and also a screenshot, which brings me to my question, "working from home and toggle auto attack" is what one of them said, what is exactly toggle auto attack and isn't that basically "Auto-Play" attacking and is that allowed? To afk/auto-play kill/XP? The second day they responded to us but the first day after asking them to stop so we could deliver the quest, none of them moved or responded, they appeared afk but could have simply ignored us ofc.

Sounds like botting to me, I have seen people doing this in the starting area with the sickly goblins too. The guy there was level 8 and clearing scripted killing a static mob respawn

Time to stretch those foul play detection rules further?

Right, its what confused me too, sounds like it but ofc i also want to understand where it stands in the official rules of an Alpha, since i also don't know how far can we take "advantage" of the systems and bugs/work in progress during an Alpha since I understand it might differ vs. Ashes when it officially launches and its not a test.

Like majority of the players I have read the ToS line by line before I accepted it ;) ...so I would guess stuff like botting is against the ToS rules.

Like every other MMO game I have played I'm sure Intrepid made all the positive noises about being harsh on cheaters, exploiters, gold farmers, and botters. I doubt all their detection and reporting tools are ready, same with staff who would deal with manual reports and associated complaints.

I would imagine this isn't very high on their priority list atm, but I hope they are taking advantage to learn from these cases before going live.

Oh I am sure that's true, I 100% believe they will put their priorities just right, I have full trust they know what they are doing and at very least that they will adapt fast, but questions are important, I also don't want to flood the report button for no reason as that also can waste someone's time. Obviously exploits and dupes and all will exist and people will use them, but these people were basically abusing this for days on end, which isn't really helping test anything. I am expecting this NPC to become friendly/unattackable soon and that problem won't exist anymore. But someone needs to keep an eye on these folks haha...

i mean they could be doing something as simple as holding the q key down with something heavy. Unless ashes detects an actual script running they really cant do much about this nor should they. if you see someone doing this, attack them down to low hp so the mob kills them.

That is also something i am wondering sticking a key down is still auto-play, so is that TOS or not, auto-killing and afk killing xp'ing. Because according to rules any form of automated gameplay is forbidden.

its not confirmable as far as i know so its better not to try and moderate that. for all intrepid know the dude could be watching a movie with his finger on the key. 3rd party programs like auto hot key *are* tracible. Easy anti cheat even has a feature that straight up will not let the game start if AHK programs are opened.

So it may be that this is allowed and im ok with that. They are not looting the items that drop, You can attack them and cause them to die to the mob that spawns, even kill them and quickly grind off your corruption.

I would submit the video and include your server name and a brief explanation of what you witnessed occurring over two days and let intrepid handle this. Whether it is script botting or impeding the progress of another player by killing the NPC that finishes a quest, I am sure it will be handled.

In the Lineage 2 BETA we could buff mobs, it was great fun to watch bot trains die. Or bring huge trains across them. Anyway, but yeah eventually the majority of that game was bots, sad.

Id still consider that botting, if its a tooth-pick holding a key allowing autoplay or a program it makes no difference to me, but I ofc don't make the rules, if its TOS than its fair play, ofc :) But i understand proving it is a more difficult feat, but in this case, someone literally saying "toggle auto-attack" that is pretty much admission :D But its important to let everyone know, can i then do the same, stick my key down and do it and it is allowed.
