Engagement with crafting and gathering

I'd like to ask both the developers and the community what they expect out of the finished crafting and gathering systems? I remember seeing a stream where the rocks were unmarked and you had to survey to find out where to get stuff, is that scrapped now or unimplemented in the alpha? Crafting is currently just a timer, i remember hearing discussion of a crafting minigame or skill based crafting, is that scrapped or unimplemented? the wiki has sources, but they're all several years old.

What the Wiki knows basically summarizes what we know today.
The content portions of Alpha-2 are more of a target for 2025 … right now the focus of A2 is on performance and stability.
Coming up with a good 'minigame' that won't be botted, or an actual skill based system, though, is definitely enough work that it's not likely to be priority, so I seriously doubt we're going to hear about it for a while.
There's also the question of what the overall audience actually wants, since the audience for the game has also morphed somewhat since 2018, and so has the Dev team. But even with that said, all my data says that they at least haven't scrapped the second thing yet.
Parser's unclear about the first thing, but there's still considerable potential for it, even considering the way Mining Nodes work now (they can be overlapped into terrain features and still be mined as long as certain spacing conditions are met).
