Hello fellow Ashes fans,
i cant help but wonder why so many people and content creators focus on the wrong issues.
I see so many People talk about stuff that i would deem to be balancing issues. Some even asking for whole reworks of systems that are not even implemented yet ... Some even asking to shift the whole direction of the game bc of it being solo unfriendly,...
i cant help but to wonder if all those people dont really understand what this phase1 of the project is about and what the aim is that this project is aiming at in the end ...
this game as i understand it is aiming to be a community driven game (total opposite of solo)
and with a heavy focus on risk vs reward (pvp focus)
if i am totally wrong about those main goals i might did get something wrong in the communication with steven and intrepid
people like this reddit user who got a lot of attention to the point that steven answered him directly dont seem to understand what the target audience is imo...
the reddit poster is claiming that a vocal minority is driving stevens decisions .... to make a game for the wrong target audience .... imo its completely reversed in reality ... this reddit user is imo so heavily influenced by social media that he cant believe that steven is not ...
imo this reddit guys didnt analyse the problems other mmos had correctly ... bc he claimed that those mmos died bc of gate keeping content and having pvp focus ... (p2w beeing a way bigger issue in stevens and imo)
imo this reddit user is the "vocal minority" asking for a completely different game and i hope that steven doesnt change course bc of people like him... that would be a disservice to the community he build imo...
so steven raised a good chunk of money from people who wanted him to build his vision of a bbq steakhouse
his vision contains many things and he invested a lot of money himself
first of all the most important
big smoker and very hot grill (node system)
medium raw tomahawk steaks/filet (partial loot open pvp/lawless zones)
ribs/briskets/wings (node wars/castle sieges/guildwars/monstercoin events)
then some really good additions
good looking sides (Artisansystem/freehold+housing/Instanced dungeons)
some good sauces to connect everything (caravan/naval system/meaningful economy/corruption system/guild system)
an some shots that are gate keeped for grown ups (flying mounts/mayor-ships/Castle owners... aso)
and i could go on and on with this analogy ...
and people gave their money for this combination of stuff bc they like a good bbq...
people like this reddit poster really want to say now (bc its 2024) that he should not listen to those people who support him in the vision to build his steakhouse bc they are a vocal minority on social media and he would be better off to cater to "a modern audience" aka vegans(solo) in my analogy ....
he raised the money by selling the idea of a steakhouse to an audience who want steaks ... the the target audience is not vegan ... so why bend and shift to them as the target audience ... his steakhouse will offer lots of veggys and non meat stuff to enjoy ... but its not the main focus and should never be ... that would alienate most of this community imo ...
(i really want to stress i dont want to make fun of anyones eating habits ... just fits perfectly to my analogy)
when i see steven sitting through interview after interview without script or prompter answering questions about his vision i dont see someone who trys to remember what other people told him to say ... i genuinely believe its his own vision formed by his own experience ... imo its very unlikely that some vocal minority told him 8 years ago ... "hey bro make a gankbox that will fail shortyl after release bc we wanna grief people all day long" ... but thats what vibe the reddit user gives me ...
steven has raised millions of dollars by pitching a game that gate keeps flying mounts ... gate keeps main content by its core design with its nodes that cant all lvl up and need to be max lvl to unlock major content and can only be altered by organized groups ... so obviously the audience who backed this project WANT gatekeeping and want community driven content... bc they dont like the approach of other mmos to give every single player everything... this design is core to the feeling of achievement imo ... and i agree with steven to not focus on catering to solos, but to still have delicious side dishes for them.
i really would love to see a good pace of progress towards the end goal ... and all these additional issues that intrepid is addressing right now to please the community who treats this alpha like a game might slow their progress on the important stuff,... there may be different teams doing different things of course ... but i guess streamlined towards the foundation they would make faster progress without constantly trying keep up with the live service part that is obviously already going on right now ...
i see a alpha build that needs a tone of work and i have the feeling that most people dont understand what the goal is .. dont see what intrepid is acutally trying to pull of ... i want to address people who want balance changes and wipes bc of advantages other people have in the "game" ... i think its silly to ask for stuff like that at this point... this is not the time to adjust dmg output or quest rewards ... we search for game breaking bugs and try to do stress tests ... who cares if grinding mobs is the best way to lvl up atm... who cares if someone else has 100 gold from duping ... the wipe is already on the horizon ... i really have the impression that intrepid slows down on the important stuff and trys to cater to those people who try to play this alpha phase1 like a game ...
i see a lot of valid critisism too, dont get me wrong, there are a lot of people who focus on the real issues ... but i hope that intrepid is not overwhelmed by this ill informed people who dont really grasp what phase we are in atm ...
just my 2 cents

PS... i hope my rambling is not too hard to read lmao ;D

To use your analogy based on that reddit user's post. Steven promised a steakhouse that had vegan meals. However the Reddit user is claiming that currently the steakhouse only has vegan meals on the menu. The vegans being the zergs, who currently will just rule by popularity, making the solo steak enjoyers unable to participate and leave.
Solos and casuals having a healthy place in the game will lead to new players joining at an exponential rate. 1 person joins and has 3 of their friends join. Those 3 join and maybe get another 3 each join.
Zergs or already established guilds will bring over a finite group of players. Take quick control at the beginning of the game and absorb population into their guild. Yes, they are more devoted and will continue to play the game till the servers shut down, however the growth is more finite.
In short solo/ casual players are NECESSARY for game growth, zergs/guilds will hold a CONSISTENT playerbase. Ideally you want both, but given too much power, zergs will force out casuals. This same dynamic happened in ESO where at the end of the day the only people still playing were well established guilds who will play through anything. Solo players only pop in due to dlc releases, but leave because the late game systems do not have a place for anyone who isn't in an established guild.
I Push for skill based fluid combat, mechanic counterplay, and player+build individuality.
