Do we need "Parry" damage mitigation mechanic on the top of "Block" and "Evasion"?

For those of us who like the 2 handed, and duellist style tank playstyles?

I would like to see tank being more than a shield class, but also a good start for a bruiser and duellist (think Aldori Defender from Pathfinder) playstyles, without a shield.

Parry is just another word for block, realistically. You can get blocks without a shield even now.

Blocking without a shield is essentially a parry. If the was a talent in the fighter kit that allowed for a riposte ever 5th consecutive parry or a similar mechanic I think would be really cool...

I suggested Tanks could get a shield bash every 3rd consecutive block as part of their kit. with a accumulative %damage reduction (dampening) for every successful block

these 2 changes alone would put way more value on active blocking and combat feel.

There are mechanics that need to be fixed with dodging, clocking etc. I still feel like you get hit regardless of these abilities.

I haven't seen any non-shield gear which comes with a block chance boost.

Block is an active action that costs stamina

    It is not that simple:

I was under the assumption you were talking about active defenses rather than passive, given a parry is generally understood as a timing-based defensive action.

Makes it easier to talk about in that case, though. We absolutely don't need parry as a passive stat.

I find passive parries, dodge, and blocks to be a pretty standard part of tanking kits for raw mitigation, with riposte often being thrown in as well, even though they could all be viewed as timing-based. We do already have block as a passive. I can understand why dodge perhaps should be more active since we can literally dodge in this game, but a passive parry opening a timed riposte option could be pretty fun. Plenty of skills have been worked into only being castable within an X second window after Y passive in other games.

    Were they single player games?
Because the idea is cool, but with network latency being all over the place depending on the users (their geographical location, their type of internet connection, etc), it feels like it wouldn't be hard to ensure everybody can use it. Latencies between 50 to 200 ms can be quite normal and common across a playerbase - and I'm excluding pathological case and instances where people are lagging badly.
If your timing window for a response/parry is 0.5 seconds, people on 200 ms latency have half the window of people on 50 ms, and as soon as you lag a bit when you start at 200 ms you basically can't parry.
