Diminishing returns on attack statistics

Diminishing returns on defense statistics are pretty common, but this is the first time I see them on attack stats, at least for pve.
It's really taking the fun out of the game as far as getting new items goes. Any upgrade I've seen so far that seemed substantial, resulted in something barely noticeable.
I really can't tell I'm getting stronger, as even across multiple levels I still need to iterate my whole spell suite twice in order to kill the same mob. Changing the weapon is usually an exciting time, but not in this game, as it currently stands.
Overall I'm saying the sense of progression and excitement that comes with it is kind of limited when it comes to actual results in combat, because it's so slow that it's not well noticeable.
