Suggestion: Ascend Materials

Currently I believe the way to get higher quality materials is to simply farm them until you get lucky and get a higher quality material.
In addition to this current system, I'd like to ask for an upgrade system. It would work like this:
- Using the strength of Essence, adventurers can now imbue Essence into the materials they gather, ascending them to a higher tier of quality.
And the system would work like this, as an example: You can upgrade 20 pieces of poor quality Oak into Uncommon, then 20 pieces of Uncommon into 1 piece of rare Oak, 20 pieces of rare Oak into 1 piece of heroic Oak and so on.
I think this system would help while not substracting or negating the rarirty of rare materials and their usefulness by a measurable amount. What do you think?

I absolutely hate this system type.
I always wonder when I try out a new game with anything similar, if that game is finally going to be the one that makes me see the benefit enough to like it.
A few have gotten close. None have managed. Maybe Ashes would be the first game to make me somehow like this, but since I hate it even in TL, where the concept is just abstract and I ignore it as much as I can, I doubt Ashes, with its actual diversity in resources, will manage.
Imagine combining 20 Common Flowers into one Uncommon Flower. What? Nah.
processing gear gives a chance to upgrade quality while processing it, so it's not the 'only' way.
In the artisan showcase they showed passives that increase quality too, hopefully those will be in next phase.
