Tank - THEEEEE worst solo class

VasorionVasorion Member, Alpha Two
Hello, I play as a Tank.
I want to say that this is an amazing class when we go into dungeons. It tanks really well and holds aggro effectively. However, when I can’t find a group, the Tank becomes absolutely useless in solo play. When everyone on the server is offline, I can’t explore, level up, or farm monsters alone. Fighting monsters is nearly impossible because of the lack of damage. I can only handle monsters that are lower level than me.
I understand, of course, that this is a social game designed for group play. However, when you need to level up alone, it’s nearly impossible. It’s almost completely impossible to earn any experience on your own.
I really hope that when you rebalance the classes, you will add more damage to the Tank, so it becomes viable for solo play. I’m counting on you for this.

Its bad. Needs to have a full time toggle that removes threat from all attacks and doubles the damage. And no, not Grit. Grit is fine, but changes nothing for solo play.

    Thats the point.

I'm not seeing that much of a damage output differential soloing tank compared to bard, the difference is bard has more self-heals and a 'get away' option.

though my tank is built different than most, with magic power for intimidating aura damage. I wouldn't know what a physical power tanks damage is typically.

It seems to me after thinking about it that Grit reducing damage output is a bit of a double penalty. It provides the same physical mitigation that Mark of the Bear does (8%, even though the tt says 10%) so when soloing it winds up being exactly the same as the ranger buff and rangers don't need to reduce their damage output for it.
Penalizing tank damage by 25% for a core defensive ability when the tank's damage is already low as a baseline seems silly. The only thing that separates a tank from a ranger in heavy amour is these abilities - grit is our passive damage reduction, and the ranger's has no penalties other than the opportunity cost of not choosing a hunt that increases their dps.

Realistically then, our powers should do baseline the same damage a rangers does if grit remains the way it does - rangers dps comes from their choice of hunt and marks.

Totally agree with you! I am planning to read the patch notes and then decide what class to play. If they don’t add DPS to Tank, I think I’ll consider playing Ranger.

I agree, something needs to be done with the tank. At the moment, the tank resembles a disabled person who is simply not able to raise the level on his own. I play a mage and was in a party with a tank and he did 0 damage, although he is a higher level than me. The tank is a very necessary class, but people are scared off by its helplessness. This is very, very sad.

Tank can start soloing around 16 pretty easily (and slowly) once you get the final tier of skills and some ok gear. Never expect a tank to do DPS, it's not their role. As a level 20 with decent gear, I still basically do no damage. Grit reduces it further. It's just not a stat tanks need to care about IMO.

Does it make soloing ass? Sure does!

The thing and main problem is that you can have multiple bards in 8man group (often 2 is ideal but if you get like 3 it would also be okayish) where you only pick one tank per group no matter what. We struggle to get parties and some groups are also fine without a tank in a group. It means bards can easily get a spot in a group where we have to sometimes go solo grind if you are not in some static group. You can't compare these two...
