Divine Infusion and Spell "lag"

yellowtwoyellowtwo Member, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Early Alpha Two
When using divine infusion to finish a cast, even if you have enough power to instantly finish entire cast, there is a moment when you start a spell that you cannot complete it instantly with divine infusion.

This buffer period before you can infuse feels really bad in my opinion, I think it should be removed so when you start casting a spell that can be infused, if you DO infuse, it does so without delay. Otherwise it ends up feeling stickier as a button than it should in those situations.

I think it might be based on how much Divine Power you have. I've had moments where it let me cast it earlier in the cast like around 25% and other moments where it didn't light up until around 50%.

I mean the skill description does say the amount of Divine Power consumed is dependent on how much cast time is remaining. So it makes sense that if you want to shorten the cast as quickly as possible, you need to save up a ton of Divine Power to do it.

I feel like honestly an off gcd instacast buff to apply to our NEXT cast would make more sense?

Then just spend whatever DP it needs, and if you don't have enough it simply does not spend anything and the buff goes away, or reduces it as much as it would have.

100% it does- it's just that even when you have enough (it lights up at the beginning of a short cast) it does not complete the cast instantly- as there is an endlag animation that locks you for a moment.

100% agreed. I did like the little "BONG" as a visual cue it happened, though I think a slight "divine pulse" emanating from the PC would help with that, especially for those not playing with sound. Maybe even a floating text of <Divine Infusion> or something to make it explicitly clear that it happened.

Random aside: did you folks notice that the cast bar changes color from the light blue to yellow when it progresses far enough that Divine Infusion is available for use?

As to the functionality of Divine Infusion, personally I would rework Divine Power entirely, but that's an entirely separate thing. I have Opinions(tm) on Divine Power as it stands right now, along with other class resources and how they're used.

(TL;DR - I'd create an "Infused" characteristic for Cleric abilities where *any* use of Divine Power on a spell can provide one or more bonus effects, then work from there.)
