How does quality of materials currently affect outcome?

I'm beginner level. I asked what seems like a simple question in Discord Artisan Chat about how rarity of ingredients affects outcome product and I'm surprised to get a reply, "Considering they just posted about changing rarity scaling it’s possible that any info you receive won’t be accurate anymore come Friday." That's ok I still want to know, unless it's a coveted trade secret.

So maybe someone could give me the basics, how does rarity of materials affect the outcome product now? I realize there are shirts, toolbelts and pants that might affect the outcome but that's all I know.

    There is gear in the game that lets you get higher level crafts from lower level materials. That's the part they are tweeking. People are getting legendary results with materials that shouldn't be able to do that.

    You kind have to play around with it. I used green oak and epic copper and a legendary wep mould and I think i made a heroic pick axe. but then used like a green and 2 blues and its still green. I'm sure some bored min maxer will create a excel program to have all this figured out at some point and have a youtube vid and a website and twitch channel that will show all of this..
