Launcher giving a Not Responding message after opening

I've been trying to download the Alpha over the last two days, but the launcher keeps giving me a not responding error as soon as I log in to start the download. At times today, during the day, I was able to have it run for short periods to get the total to about 30 percent but overall, this is very frustrating. Can anyone help on how to solve this and have the game download itself without giving a not responding message? Thank you in advance I appreciate the help.
