Crash to Desktop

Great game when playable.
However in the new (Dec 20) alpha I am now having crash to desktop issues every 30 seconds to 5 minutes. I see advice to move out of the starter areas. There are 2 problems following those instructions. 1) getting to a level high enough to make that do-able, and 2) having the game stay up long enough to make the run even if I chose to try doing this without getting the levels I should have before leaving the starter areas. This issue makes the game unplayable.
I have done a complete removal and re-install and have seen no improvement, it may even have gotten worse as the low end of the mean time to crash fell from about 3 minutes to under 30 seconds after the re-install.
