Ashes of Creation has the most frustrating and unfun crafting system I have ever experienced

This is coming from someone who enjoys crafting in other MMOs.

Crafting in this game is absolutely terrible right now. I understand that crafting is not a focus right now but it’s in an unbelievably horrible state. I truly think that the whole design philosophy for crafting is completely flawed. Every other MMO I’ve played does crafting 10 times better. And I’ve played alphas with crafting systems in better states than this.

First of all being a solo crafter is basically impossible. You are not going to get very far or accomplish anything meaningful by your self. Sure, maybe eventually level 40-50 items should take a lot of effort. But right now you have to do so much just to get to journeyman level to craft level 10 items. This is insane design.

Secondly, even a guild struggles to gear up their guild with low leveled gear. Why is it so hard for a guild to get everyone geared up with level 5 gear. It should not be this way! It takes so much coordination, time, and effort just to make crappy gear for your guild. In any other game you would be able to get low leveled gear to everyone in your guild easily. It’s not the case in this game.

Finally, the reward you get for crafting just doesn’t match the effort required to make things. It really demotivates you to even want to engage with the crafting system. I enjoy crafting in every other MMO. But, it’s honestly just so terrible in this game that I don’t even want to bother with it.

Honestly, the devs should just copy a crafting system that works from another MMO because the crafting is so far off the mark from where it needs to be. I am enjoying the rest of the game. Just hate the crafting system.

    Oh even in a alpha state its far from the most unfun, there are alot worse ones in some full release mmo's.

    however it isn't a very fun system and I do agree it needs tuning, I think it will get there just hang in and give it time.

    The crafting seems to be a long term system. It would never be fun, until most player have reach max level and only a few person have reach the end-gaming crafting for each system. That's where crafter will start to shine and be brought into the lore.

    till they don't rework the crafting system will never work. The freehold idea is nice but only 32 person againt 6k people on the server can have the freehold, no sense so the 0,5 % of the player can make this content, and it's the only content where you can make master and grand masster. Now you drop better instead craft, the difference between the quality is not so much and drop rare item it's more easy. Than before we can craft lvl 20 item will pass months. The resource is too low for the quantity of gatherer.

    I am hoping that they have a system somewhat similar to Star Wars Galaxies instead of something like WoW. I would love another system like that. It was nice how it was all interconnected. I have not dived into the crafting system yet but I intend to once I find where I can train herbalism.

    My newbie suggestion is... make it easier to find some of these npcs.

    Am I the only one thinking that is a mistake to allow al players to master all professions ?

    I would set up a limit for each time of profession that u can specialize. This will force trade my friends.
    Even in real life, we can't be an expert on everything, only Elon or Steve could, but they are not from this planet.

    This already the case, confused why you think otherwise? Of the 22 artisan professions, you can only have 5 apprentice, 4 journeyman, 3 master, and 2 grandmaster.

    I totally agree with you and among all you said. It's like the system is made so you DON'T craft or never wish to. Even if you want to try it out, you have no resources to actually do stuff. You search for hours for a couple of pieces just to maybe lose them to a inventory or storage bug or something.

    The crafting system needs work... To put it into perspective, I want to craft some bows for myself (I am level 12). I am already a journeyman lumberjack (level 21) and a level 17 lumbermiller. This is all from just trying to level up carpentry to level 10 so I can make a bow. I have cut down hundreds of trees and for what? Im only level 6 carpentry and will need to cut down hundreds more because I only have 1 viable option to gain xp, and thats to mindlessly craft caravan chassis, because making boxes is a net loss on money. Please for the love of all my wasted time, reduce the xp requirement on early level crafting.

    Better yet, just buy a bow from the vendor which is a massive upgrade. Then go and farm HH for a much better bow than you would have eventually crafted anyways. Which is only balanced by the insane amount of griefing at HH right now...

    I consider that the constraint on « mastery » is a good one, asking for coopération.

    But yes, crafts level is unbalanced, compared to general progress.
    t’s an important time of gathering, processing and crafting… for nothing as looted stuff is far better.
    Copper, tin and brass (crafted) items seems useless.
