Different weapons, different classes

So Iv only played ranger so far but what is the point of running different weapons. The ranger basically has zero skills they can use with a melee weapon. Even when augments come out I don’t see how you could utilize skills like barrage/sniper/scatter shot while wanting to be a melee ranger. Will you always have to have a bow in your offhand or will there be a melee path of skills in the rangers kit?
