Maybe add NPC caravans similar to treasure maps?

I was having a discussion with a guildie about how to classify this, and ultimately we landed on artisanship since caravan crafting is 100% artisan stuff and you need a scribe to restore worn treasure maps.
I was thinking that maybe down the line, we might see something like a Torn Caravan Route that, when restored and used, would spawn an NPC-controlled caravan somewhere that anybody could take over and drive after the person who used the consumable had entered the area.
I don't know if the tech for NPC-controlled caravans is even in the dev pipeline yet, but once it is, this seems like it might be an interesting way to foster engagement with caravan systems with lower risk and lower reward than investing dozens of gold into building your caravan only to have it destroyed in the process of losing your cargo.
I also think it might be interesting to see something analogous to the crowbars, but with a chance to recover one of the parts from a destroyed caravan. Obviously, you shouldn't fly anything you can't afford to lose, but it would be nice to have a way to recoup a portion of the losses.
