How does demoting a profession work?

If I demote a level 10 Apprentice gathering profession back to novice what happens? Is it as simple as visiting the NPC to promote it again? I have a preconceived notion that all progression gained will be lost; reverting that skill back to level 1 and losing the ability to use the apprentice level tool, as well as access to resources that require your character to be at an apprentice level. Am I right in this? Does anyone have any experience with demoting a gathering profession?

    I asked the same question in phase 1. Apparently it will wipe the 10 levels of xp when you demote a skill.

    Note: I haven’t tested this personally.

    Ok, so going back to recertify the next level is not an option unless you grind all the way back up. Did you get any information on if you still keep the apprentice level tool?

    I do the demode many times, you lose all the level over the demote level so if you are apprendice and demote to novice and you are lvl 15, your level go dawn to lvl 10.

    I demoted my fishing apprentice down to novice and lost 93k XP. I didnt have an upgraded fishing pole so not sure if it reverts back to the standard novice fishing pole. Has anyone found out what happens to the tool?

    I accidentally demoted my mining from 20+ to Novice (I was attempting to promote it to Journeyman) and when I tried to promote it back up to apprentice, it showed it as being locked. I did still have the apprentice tool though.

    It reduces ur level to the maximum of your new rank, so dropping apprentice to novel you will loose all XP you had and you new level will be 10.
