Regarding the recent drama. Thank you Steven and the rest of the team! <3

I'm currently taking a moment away from writing a feedback doc with some suggestions after having listened to ALL of the recent drama. Asmon's interviews with Narc, Steven and I'm currently listening on Thor's channel as they chat about the game together.

I just want to say, especially to Steven who has borne the brunt of this insanity, you are not alone. There are many players who support you and everyone on the team and the vision of the game. I think I can speak on their behalf when I say, thank you so much! Thank you for staying strong and continuing forward, despite these unfortunate and unpleasant headwinds, for listening to players, caring about feedback and for being so transparent.

I've been playing for a short time but following for years now. From a massive MMO player who's been in Eve since '05, WoW, FF14, GW2 and even Archeage, I cannot wait to see what the future holds. I yearn for my ship to sail, ferry and fish on the seas again.

All the love to Steven and the team and good on you for standing up as you did!

Ow and who knows, maybe by the end of this the entire industry will look at game development in a whole new light thanks to you! Wouldn't that be absolutely amazing!

Yes, getting a very detailed wiki in advance, before the features are even implemented. I'd like to get that from every investor funded companies so we can debate on forums and complain when they are missing :)

What a start of the 2025 year!
If somebody would tell me a few days ago that I will become a fan of Asmongold, I would say he is crazy.
    I am still watching

and I am at the moment he became friend with Thor on Discord.
Seems that Ashes of Creation brings people together.
    One game pillar achieved.

I appreciate it also. I have my own criticisms, but appreciate the work being put in. And I appreciate Steven defending himself and the company, and saying the truths that aren't often spoken in his recent video appearances.

As I've said before, we've probably seen nothing yet. The insanity is just going to continue to ramp up as it becomes more and more apparent to the haters that this game will launch. It's inexplicable, but for some reason, that fact is like the end of the world to them. Keep going Intrepid, lots of positives with the work you've done so far.

I wish I would pay more attention. I could have spotted Narc's mistake faster.
He expected/claimed everything this picture shows, to be right from the beginning of Alpha 2 Phase 2 preset.

    But it was said that

Doesn't mean all of the things we list as part of those phases are going to be at the start of the phase. It's what we intend to launch during the phase.[3] – Steven Sharif
    [3] is a reference to a livestream from November 27, 2024

Steven repeated again that it will be implemented over the phase 2 in this interview with Asmond

The expansion to the desert is going to occur throughout phase two.
Phase two just started December 20th. We are 15 days into phase 2
During those 15 days the Studio's been on break the entire time right because it was Christmas and holiday so there are five more months where we have been very clear in all of our development updates that we are going to be continually building the game.
That is part of what Alpha is. We have said that and that means that that territory will expand it means that the tropics will be expanding that the Badlands will be expanding. – Steven Sharif

I feel for Steven. I don't agree with all his decisions but he does not deserve to be lied about. I would sue for slander. He is just a gamer making a game. Leave him be.

    Steven dominated that interview
Great watch, good to see a creator passionate about what they’re making

I think Ashes is a posterchild for open development, and the more drama that occurs along the way, even if it succeeds, even only at the current level of drama - unless it brings in like 5 times Blizzard-tier revenue, most companies and boards of directors would probably be turned off from copying it. Which is unfortunate, because I think with a few key lessons, you could achieve the same authentic user-feedback-inspired development process without the major upsets, by taking a page out of the Star Citizen book of regrets.

Do the testing in shorter waves of content-appropriate scales, make realistic promises, and when your promises don't follow through, make realistic adjustments with even more realistic schedules. Between the waves, go silent for a few months or sometimes a year. However long it takes to reach the next milestone, because the whole point is making the schedule follow the real developments that provide the foundation for the next useful wave of community feedback, instead of trying to force an unrealistic schedule and collect data that won't do anything.
If you have funding limitations, communicate them openly from the start; I feel like the perfect investor would love the publicity from knowing their saving-grace intervention makes the project feasible while staying true to its mission for a change, rather than being the evil empire takeover it always ends up being when the initial operation fails ungracefully after trying to keep up pretences for way too long, and someone has to pick up the pieces. That would also preserve and revive the hype, instead of announcing the game's death by milking. And you can only get that, if the potential of a takeover is framed as a successful plan C development from the start.

I don't necessarily mind how Intrepid does it either, and ultimately, if they deliver a playable product at the end, the pure direct approach of constant communication might even score it a little extra authenticity and direct-community-connection hype. There'll just be a bunch more drama along the way that shouldn't be interpreted as an inevitable side effect of open development, and I hope that doesn't act as a deterrent to a much-needed revolution of game design principles, or the fresh air the MMO-type genre needs.
The only one who can validate you for all the posts you didn't write is you.

Thankyou Steven for what you are attempting.

It just occurred to me something.
This was PvP in real life. Maybe even griefing.
I wonder if we can talk about risk vs reward too here.

Lol. The giveaway last year Children Hospital was also pvp in the donations by my Guild too. 😉
