Weeping Willow/Braidwood Issues

ajay1770ajay1770 Member, Alpha Two
This is probably an echo chamber rant at this point:

There is a HUGE issues with gathering node spawns. We all know this. I feel this is an even larger problem due to the fact there are SO many more people in the realm. This has created a HUGE bottleneck in leveling multiple crafting artisanships. Armor Smith, Weapon Smith, Tailoring, Leatherworking, and Farming. Let alone the processing artisanships. All of them need mass amounts of Weeping Willow, either boards or planks, to just to level efficiently.

I know a lot of the crafting/gathering is a placeholder. With mining, the all the nodes can spawn any type of material. But with Lumberjacking the only trees that have specific nodes, is Willow and Braidwood. I feel that it would make the crafting grind much more fluid if the spawning of Braidwood is prevented until Journeyman Axes are available. I linked a video that has 14 Braidwood trees all in a small area, that shows this problem. All of those nodes can spawn a Willow but are blocked by Braidwood. This is a problem across the entire realm. If the goal is to limit the amount of spawns of Willow. I feel that just removing nodes, and still doing this fix would also solve the problem.

in the same area you find also many willows, but it's hard to find and many people attack to take the tree. Awfully. Last time a bard 8 lvl over me attack to take a tree I made all to don't permit him to take the tree, lucky was a bard without brain so I died but I bring him near a guard and he run all the time to escape from the guard, so the tree was cut from another player, the important was that he didn't cut the tree.

Its one thing for Willow to be contested by another player. That's part of the game. Its another thing for there to be NO Willow at all due to the spawn points being taken up by a tree we can't even gather currently. That's my point. I'm a ranger and have been in races with other people to get to trees, I've even had to kill people to get trees. Its a fun game mechanic to me. But the way they currently spawn is not a solid way to do it.

Sorry but I have a difficult time believing this statement. Would you be able to provide some evidence of this in the form of screen shots or video, like the above did?

Devs thought people woudnt horde the willow wood and would build the journeyman bench with it before all the node respawned as briarwoods :p

as for the 43 willow tree ive been rotating between 39 of them are now briarwood

Thats true, but that's human nature. Its a rare resource, so people want are going to hording as much of it, in mass. On Vyra, we're currently working on JM Mining (which is stupid in my opinion, but that's a whole other conversation.) But even tho we're deep into Apprentice to the point where my static is VERY little need for copper. People are still hording copper, even tho we need a lot of it for the work order to get JM tools. Like even tho copper/zinc should become relatively useless after Weapon Smithing, Armor Smithing, and Jeweler's stop needing it to level efficiently. With the current system, they inadvertently created a bottleneck that forces the crafters that need Willow to use Novice level crafts to continue leveling. So between still needing those Tier 1 resources to level PLUS people hording them, it's making people not want to use it community propose (ie. progressing the node) but instead people want to use it for themselves.

I believe it is a design problem and a player base misunderstanding. Let us look into the future and there are master and grandmaster gatherable trees in the game with the current design. All the gathering materials are now locked at higher and unobtainable higher profession. This is by design …. TO GET US PLAYERS TO LEVEL THE NODE! This game introduces a new meta … grow your node PIRMARILY . This is the incentive to level the node further so that the higher artisan level can advance. This is the intended design

Reality is we are in Alpha, cannot level our nodes without GM’s instant spawning Miralith for example, and all our few world weeping willow trees are spawned as braidwood trees and we have no method to rid ourselves of them so that lower, useable, tier resources like weeping willow .

As a work around, I suggest, as trees are fixed on freeholds, that we hire freeholds to plant rootballs of weeping willow as they give willow now and not oak as prior. Sadly the only way to ask who owns a freehold is to ask in general chat in hopes of a response.
Weeping willow trees are a serious blockage if they all spawn as a tier higher, so all i say in try leveling the node further… unless you have a mayor only interested in pvp and not obtaining better gear from artisanship then your node is up the creek without a paddle.

In short level the node then journeyman logging shall open up… and that is being restricted by mayors not understanding what to do. Miralith has 2 factories for example how will this get us journeyman levels? Get a mayor who intends to grow the node is also part of the solution

The problem with using the freeholds is that people bought them and did not know that permissions were not in game for them yet. What this results in is while you can make the rootball for the freehold owner, they cannot plant them unless they are an apprentice farmer, then after they grow and mature you cannot chop them only the freehold owner can, so again unless they are an apprentice lumberjack they cannot chop down the tree. So either they level farming and lumberjacking to apprentice or they dont use the root ball. At that point, why would they want a rootball from you instead of making it themselves and hoarding the wood it would produce.

the only weeping willow worth holding onto though is heroic and above (which is incredably rare) all other weeping willow is relatively worthless with exception of crafting tools with or caravan parts however most people just buy the caravan parts from the NPC so u cant even make much money off them. weeping willow seed ball might be another use for shit quality wood i havant look into that recipe yet.

weeping willows on freeholds apparently give you oak wood aswell when u cut them from what ive been told :P

Nah, green and blue willow are both relevant for making wood chips to tan hides. Heroic+ carcasses are so rare that blue hides are frequently the best you can get, and you need rare willow to go with them. BIS gear like Polished Tin Leggings/Belt need them.

Willow is the copper of T2. Pretty much every craft needs it for something. And copper timers were improved due to all the complaints of it being a gating material. Not so much for Willow which is still longer. There's also an incredible amount of bugged Willows that cannot be interacted with at all.

I don't think that Braidwood spawns are the problem. Willow timers are just too long combined with too many that cannot even be interacted when the resource is required in so many recipes.
