Demoting skills losing progress

asadsaladasadsalad Member, Alpha Two
I am not sure if this is a bug or just a feature but I've been jumping around between the different artisan skills and love the fact that only 5 skills can be upgraded to apprentice making it so I have to interact with other people with the skills I need. But when I go to demote a skill all my XP progress is lost and get set to 100% at lv 10. I don't think this is fun and just feel stuck with the skills I spent the most time and unable to explore other trades.

Also losing access to the tools I made because I no longer have the appropriate skill rank is just frustrating. (For example, if I had made a journey LV tool and then demoted to novice, I no longer can use that tool setting me back to LV 10 and unable to repromote back to journey)
I think a better system would be you need the appropriate skill rank to craft the tool but then a skill level requirement to equip the tool.

The whole point is that no one character can do it all, even if switching around and such. That's the design philosophy; player interdependence.

So you are unlikely to get your wish.

Personally I prefer having to split the artisan skills, creating that interdependency. Mastering a single skill should be very hard too, IMO.

After thinking about I like the idea of splitting the skills, I only came across this because I got herbalism, woodcutting, and mining to journeyman certification, but because the nodes don't have journeyman-level tools for them so I dropped one, I was just a little annoyed I lost the time I spent getting it to that level.
But I guess I learned it the hard way lol.

Instead of losing an existing skills progress there should be 60/90 day cooldown before being allowed to re-promote the skill. This is only fair since people really don't know what crafting skills they may ultimately want and the current system deeply discourages curiosity and crafting exploration, not to mention not valuing a players commitment and time.

Was just about to type this, right on.

I had to redo Apprentice to Journeyman Lumberjacking because I must have hit demote instead of promote. That or the game just goofed.

This could be solved with a prompt that states what the game is about to do and asks you to confirm or deny the action. I want to say I remember such a prompt existing, but I don't remember getting it anytime recently.
Maybe I am just remembering what I want to exist.
