What drew You to Ashes?

We have a lot of new faces that have joined us since Alpha 2 has begun and there are so many more waiting to enter the gates to Verra coming later this year. What about Ashes are you most anticipating or most excited for?

For Virtek and Myself, there are a few things.

Overall, Ashes revealed itself as a unique take on MMORPGs, it also has beautiful graphics and intricate systems that weave together to make the world feel like it is really alive.

We may not see that in its fullest extent currently, but the signs are there.

Saw one of the AoC streams like 2.5 years ago. Before that I had only heard of AoC but kind of dismissed it entirely.

The stream was recommended by a friend c:

I think that what drew me was the way that the devs talked about the game. they showed passion and i loved it

There are two ways to be alive:
    1) many players running around doing things. This happens in any well populated mmo
    2) things to happen in the world independent of players or with little interaction with from player side

When players leave an mmorpg we typically say the game is dead because the environment is static, with NPCs standing and waiting you to interact with them.
GW2 feels way more alive in some places, with factions fighting, with NCPs talking, traders moving and entering portals, children chasing creatures...

So what will make AoC more alive than other mmos?

Originally ran across a stream from LoreForged late last year which got my interest.

Looking for something similar to the older MMOs plus more. I've played MMO's for the last 25+ years, and I'm looking forward to several things.

    1. No fast travel. Everything seems like a D&D adventure as just going out gathering or exploring feels like a D&D campaign. When I'm out gathering, I see familiar characters often, and feels like I'm in a community of sorts, even though I don't group up.

    2. Difficulty. I mainly solo (99%+), and I like the difficulty. I have to be aware of my surroundings and evaluate how to take on an encounter. I know there are some things I can never do while soloing, and I'm good with that.

    3. PvX. I don't PvP, but once they fix the exploits, I believe "most" people that want to PvP will be taking part in the parts of the game that are specifically setup for PvP (Caravans, Guild Wars, Node Wars, etc.). I know there will some that will risk corruption, but I'm good with that. I'll just have to be more careful. Maybe eventually I'll take part in PvP...

I know I'm not the typical player. I have no desire to rush to max level, to gain lots of gold, to obtain the best items, or anything like that. I just explore, gather, process items, help others out when I run across them, and enjoy the game. There are a lot of things to fix (which I send a lot of bug reports), but I'm having a great time as it is now.

In a way, it's sort of the solo D&D type campaign I've wanted for a long time, and yet, still be able to interface with others when I want.

    How much time ya got?

    - Pay to win mechanics
    - Poor game design
    - Incomplete or broken content
    - Player feedback being ignored
    - Cookie cutter quests
    - Stale, instanced PVP

    The list goes on.

The devs passion and attitude reminds me of time when the industry was more independent, and the dev landscape was like the wild west. They were better times full of better games. I've played too many hours of MMOs to count and have lost what I once enjoyed in them.

Ashes has signs of being a game led by a team actually passionate about their product and is poised to deliver (even if it's in 5 or 6 more years) a game that I could once again enjoy with friends and family the way I used to. Or it may not be the game for me. For now, there are many features that excite or interest me, even if there are opposing features I don't agree with. I hope there can be room for more than one type of player in an "MMO"

    Class combinations, including multi-pet classes.

A dynamic node system that will allow each server to be unique. Some servers will be peaceful, some at war, most in between.

Ashes of Creation has the potential to become a Game of Thrones MMO, where through fighting, guile, and diplomacy, one person could control an entire server, with five metropolises, their vassal cities, and other kingdoms from cities and towns, with their vassal nodes.
