Caravan taxi, or a "fast travel system"

TyricaleTyricale Member, Alpha Two
One thing I've been thinking about is how large the current world is, and it's still going to be even bigger, which could make the life of people with jobs that want to participate a problem if good dungeons are spread around the world that their friends want to take on. I know we currently have plans for a "family teleport", but that feels.. out of sync with the game. Understandable in Alpha, but unlikely to make it to the main game in any form.

The process I'm envisioning would work something like this:

I need to be at a dungeon tomorrow and meet up with friends, but I don't really have time to go the entire 3 hour distance by mount, across 12 nodes.

As a result, I set a travel request up at my current town, detailing the route of nodes I want to go, and an important note is that I can't do this while I have materials on me. I specify this will be valid till 5:00 PM tomorrow, when I'd have to hop on to book it to the dungeon on time.

This travel request can be picked up by a player, and that player can pick up a number of requests based on caravan capabilities that are going to the same city.

Once they pick up the request(s), they finalize caravan travel, and then launch the caravan. This caravan is not PVP flagged, as no cargo is being carried, so travel by roads is the fastest, and best method.

That player then goes to the next "stop" on my travel request, and gets a portion of my payment provided to them (as if my character paid them for the travel). If I log in before that time, the request is nullified, but I don't get my taxed processing fee back, only the reward I was paying, so this is wasteful. (Maybe some notice pops up on my character select screen that this character is "in transit").

This creates a potential incentive for shrewd players. I would normally just hop on my mount and run to the city I need to be in, but instead if I'm cash-strapped or wanting to look for willows/ores/hunts on the way, I can use a caravan to move 4 or 6 people to a new city and get a bit of extra cash, for a bit of my time. Inversely, if I really want to be in a city by tomorrow, but I don't want to go by mount, I could tip an obscenely large amount of money for the order and someone else may take me up on that offer since it's so much money.

It's flavorful, adds more reason to view the scenery, and can be a good money earning practice for lower level players with some time on their hand and a good guild that provides transport caravans to it's members, and a money sink for higher level players who can't be bothered.
