Severe Performance Issues

rhyagellerhyagelle Member, Alpha Two
Hello!

I know this is an alpha and I shouldn't be expecting perfect performance or no hitches, but it's kind of unplayable for me right now. I see a lot of streamers and videos on Youtube where the game is running significantly better. I've talked to people in-game and they have "worse" setups than me and yet far better performance, so I'm hoping maybe there's a secret setting or something else I might have missed that will allievate these problems, even if for a little bit.

Issue: intense stuttering and hitching, especially when turning the camera about.

My setup is the following:
  • i9-13900HX
  • RTX 4070
  • 32GB RAM
  • 4TB NVMe
(yes, it is a laptop, set to performance/most powerful profile)

I have cleaned installed the latest and last stable of my graphics driver and tested already. I also already cleared Direct Shader Cache and reverified the game. Problem still persists.

Any idea on what I can do to make this problem go away, or get better?

Thank you~

Ive been looking for answers as well. I found a recommendation to install Lagofast, it shows your constant ping to the server and it showed Im suffering major lag spikes and some packet loss. However I am in Australia. I connected the software to a different game to North America and it wasnt pretty either. I havent jumped in and tried that game yet. Type getfree in the trial download and it gives you 50 hours use without signup. I thought it might be my laptop (which has a 4060 card), then my internet, all tested ok and drivers up to date. I seen a streamer in Sydney 2-3 weeks ago? and his gameplay was fairly smooth. I thought it was more playable initially, so perhaps something has changed. I only started in Alpha 2. Just thought Id share my experience.

That might make sense, actually. I am currently stationed overseas in South Korea. I don't really have much of a problem with this outside of Call of Duty, so I never even considered that it would make my performance THAT bad here in Ashes of Creation.

I will try Exitping when I can and test the theory out. I know some games, like Black Desert Online, drops performance dependent on your internet quality, so could be plausible.

Just a follow up. I upgraded our internet plan to a 250mbs download / 22mbs upload today. Now admittedly I did connect during peak hours previously and non peak today, but wow what a difference the upgrade has made. I had a very stable 165ms ping. Which of course is very high if you were connecting locally. However my connection was going Brisbane > Sydney > North America. When you think about the distance, its crazy good. Consistent with no lag spikes is key. Will try when the servers come back up next weekend during peak hours. If I dont make any further comment, problem resolved.

Unfortunately, I do not think that is my current problem. I have 1GB internet that is extremely stable.

Well I don't know if my problem is resolved during peak hour times yet. But was good to see it working without major teleport lag or rubber banding. It was un-playable.

Good luck. Delete the post and re-post if this was not your issue.

Surely someone out there has had this problem and figured out how to fix it?
