MOUNTS diversification suggestion.

Please add a dependence of the mount's movement speed on the zone/biome the player is moving through.

For example:
In the desert or sands the fastest mount is the Scorpion or some type of Sand Lizard.
In the grassy area - Horse.
In the savannah - Lion.
In the swamps - Сrocodile.
In the mountains area - some type of Mountain Goat or Snow Leopard.
In dead locations/biomes - all types of Undead Mounts.
In the water (rivers and oceans can have different mounts requirements) - In the fresh water - Hippopotamus. In the salt water - Navy Seal or Seal.
In the snowy biomes - Polar Wolfs/ Polar bears/Mammoths.
In the wild forest - Bear.
In tropical zones - all types of Lizards and Dinosaurs (maybe Monkey).

And also if you are not moving on the correct type of mount in the zone - the movement speed decreases.

This idea has never been in any MMORPG game before.

This will motivate players to have a minimum set of mounts and not run around the game world on the SAME FASTEST mount.

Base type of any mounts must be available for players by base quests in different zones/biomes.
But the fastest mount version can be received for special quests or achievement or by killing some of RARE npc or just for gold or reputation.

  • AoC animals are kinda a mix of multipel animals into one kinda lika a chimera, they are very nice except for the mount that has the tail of a house cat that is the cringest thing i have ever seen in any game ever
PvE means: A handful of coins and a bag of boredom.

The Intrepid Art and Animation Teams spent a good deal of time on the Shell of the Ancients (turtle) mount.

Would be a shame to see the speed nerfed for character owners.

I suggested something similiar awhile ago where certain mount had biome/zonebuffs where they get a bonus in certain terrains

This would be a neat idea, as for Arya's comment about mounts being able to be a mix of multiple types of animals... Maybe they could take the dominant main body trait of said mount and use that to decide, or in the case of something like a scorpion/otter... it could be faster in both desert and water... maybe if it was something like a komodo/scorpion it would be faster in the desert than normal desert animals because it's getting a boost from both?
  • More ideas for this system = mount's in the game and more differents between them. To prevent ONE MOUNT using on the whole server.

I know only one thing regarding Ground Mounts.

There was a dark, edgy looking Horse thing at Nodes which looked like you would need to GRIND a certain Content for Tens to Hundred of Hours to be able to attain it,

and that " i " personally could only use the Horse which i got at the Questline from Lionhold at the Beginning,

and that i could NEVER attain any other Mount -> except maybe when someone offered to sell a "Bear" for like Eighty Silver Pieces - but i refused because i had like 1 Gold and 20 Silver and Bears are not my favourite over a Horse.

If the Game at Release / Version 1.0. has still the exact same way to get Mounts -> then i will be surprisingly f~ed unless i can successfully ask and rely on others to share a few cool ones with me.

But then again i struggled hard with the english Client much to my Surprise and i am not really the smartest Candle on the cake regarding MMO Players. I can accept that.

That’s actually a very interesting idea and would definitely add a layer of depth and immersion to the game world. Having biome-specific mount advantages could encourage players to diversify their mount collection and plan their travels more strategically instead of always using the single fastest mount.

However, one thing to keep in mind is that Ashes of Creation already plans to have different mount abilities, tiers, and utility depending on rarity and type. Adding biome-specific movement speed penalties might create frustration for casual players or those who prefer focusing on a specific mount.

Also, it could impact balance in large-scale PvP or caravans, since players could be forced to swap mounts constantly based on terrain, which may not fit the fluid open-world experience the game aims for.

That said, having optional bonuses or slight advantages (not penalties) when using a "correct" mount in a biome could be a good middle ground. It rewards preparation without punishing players too hard.

Would be cool to see Intrepid discuss something like this in future Q&As.
