Castigation The Whip

SinkillasSinkillas Member, Alpha Two
I want the whip back, it had one of the best sounds and animations. We should have more offensive abilites that also function as defensive healing abilities.

also I was told to come here and ask for my whip back. I need my ability to whip my friends and enemies into shape.

Yes this was one of the better abilities cleric has ever had and I'm so sad to see it gone. With a bit of rework it could be a very good ability for the game. The idea that it gives you some time in melee where you are pushing out heals and mana regen to people creates an interesting frontline healer tactic so we can make use of more than just plain healing touch. The ability plays perfectly into Steven's vision of risk vs reward so losing it was always a travesty. Abilities like this are where you get to start making real build decisions and variations in a class. Do I want to be in the frontline with less potent healing, so I was to be a priest never leaving the back line hard casting huge heals, do I want to focus on being a nuisance to the enemy or a boon to my allies. Right now build diversity and player choice in play style are one of the biggest lacking factors in the game.

Not to detract from castigation but it we are talking about old abilities that should be reinvestigated for coming back into the game I would also add divine censure to that list. It was a cool animation, and the buff of healing from damaging an enemy that was hit with it is another interesting mechanic that is lacking from the game. For things like priority kill targets abilities like this are king and I wish we had them back.

If I'm being completely honest all of the old damaging spells from alpha 1 was miles above what we have now. Exorcism was a lot of fun and the channel made it so you actually had to think about damage vs healing uptime. Damnation was nice zone control that debuffed enemies damage output. Overall the options cleric had to make an impact beyond just keeping health bars full felt so much better before and I would like to see this kind of should I heal, debuff, or damage right now kind of decision making be brought back to cleric.
