Do Tanks Have a Future in Endgame?
First of all, I want to give massive thanks to the developers for the recent buffs to the tank class in Ashes of Creation. Before the changes, it was nearly impossible to enjoy playing as a tank. The skill improvements and new additions have made the gameplay smooth, exciting, and finally competitive. It really feels good to be a tank now – during the leveling phase, at least.
But that’s where my concern begins.
As someone who plays tank as a main, I’ve noticed a major issue: tanks seem to become obsolete once we hit endgame. During the grind – when we’re leveling, running dungeons, and farming mobs – tanks are essential. We hold aggro, we protect the team, and everything works as it should. But once the party is geared up, fully enchanted, and past the leveling curve, the need for a tank starts to disappear.
In PvP, the tank has a very situational role. Sometimes useful, sometimes not. Sure, we’ve got some nice utility like pulling enemies with a chain or dropping a wall to block movement, but that’s pretty much it. Without consistent endgame PvE content – like dungeons, boss fights, or farming areas where tanks are necessary – we end up standing around with nothing to do.
So the big question is: will there be future content where tanks will remain relevant? Is there a plan to keep tanks engaged in the long term, or are we just here for the early game?
I love what you’ve done with the class – please don’t let it fade into irrelevance after the grind is over. Tanks deserve a place in the endgame too.
