Service Request Timeout/Deleted Character

Hello, I downloaded the Alpha last night, made a new character and ran around for a bit before I went to bed. I go to log in today and am just getting hit with a bunch of different Service Request Timeout errors and my character seems to be gone from the login screen. Should I just make a new character? Is this just the typical Alpha experience? Will my other character show back up and will a new character disappear like the old one?
