Node Resource Specialty

LudulluLudullu Member, Alpha Two
I had this idea while running around Miraleth for quests and stuff, but I think all nodes should have a similar "resource specialty" that Mira does right now.

We have daffodils and basalt in Mira, so why not have, say, granite and eastern hemlock in Windstead, zinc and snowdrops in Halcyon, copper and western larch in Joeva, ash/oak and rubies in New Aela.

This way there'd be a point in these massive node building costs, which would directly encourage people to use caravans for material transfer rather than just money making. This would also let cross-node marketing to be better, because people would know which node to go to for which kind of material, while traders could go to other nodes with their resources and upsell them a bit.

I kinda even think that current Mira is a test of exactly that, but they simply haven't implemented it across all the other nodes.

This could also play into node wars, where one of the wars could include stealing mats from the enemy and the reward would be smth like "local material respawn is decreased for a certain time".

Citizens could also have a buff to gathering in the node's footprint, so that there's a reason to become more loyal towards your preferred node.

And none of this would need to remove those same resources from randomly popping up in the other parts of the biome, cause those random spawns would prevent a full monopolistic lockout of a resource and would also let the more casual people come across them, while hardcore gatherers can specialize in targeted collection.

We haven't said anything about this because this was the absolute assumption of my entire group based on things Intrepid has said.

Actually, I think we all still believe that, so this topic would normally get more of the 'why don't you think this is how it will be?' but at that point, I just wanna reassure Intrepid that 'yes, we believe you can do this' (even if you didn't intend it when all that stuff was originally said), and probably have no negatives toward it if done even passably.

So uh... I guess just the basic reminder that there are at least 8 people out there who care about this type of gameplay in fantasy MMOs.

"No nation controls Vollbow Region this week so we can't buy any Chamomile." is a foundational experience.

I don't think I remember them saying that certain nodes would specialize in certain resources. They always talked about biomes, but don't remember them getting any more granular than that.

And you know my basic assumptions about things, so this kinda mechanic didn't really cross my mind until I saw that Miraleth had a shitton of daffodils and basalt (most of which was barely even working, but Alpha be alphaing).

Nah, I can see how, coming in from the L2 side, this wouldn't have been the automatic assumption, actually...

And as for everyone from 'my' side, well, that's what the link was for.

It's true that we shouldn't assume things that haven't been explicitly said, though, even if they are 'standard' to some, everyone's experience is different. Yet, surely Intrepid must know that anyone who played any of those game types (EVE, BDO, FF11, Elite) who hears stuff about Nodes and specialties, will be assuming that, and Jeff was still there when this was hashed out, so...
    Stellar Devotion.
