External SSD is recognised as HDD when you try to install Ashes of Creation

Greetings, fellow adventurers!

If you want to install Ashes of Creation on your external SSD but the launcher incorrectly detects it as an HDD, here’s how to fix it:

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Try installing the game as usual. If it works without issues — great! You’re good to go. 🙂
2. If not, open the Command Prompt (CMD) as Administrator.
2. Run the following command: wmic logicaldisk get DeviceID,DriveType,FileSystem,VolumeName
3. Look for your external drive in the list.
4. If it shows NTFS under FileSystem, skip to Step 11.
5. If it shows something other than NTFS (for example exFAT), you’ll need to reformat the drive (This will erase all data).
6. Open File Explorer and go to "This PC".
7. Right-click on your external drive and select "Format…"
8. In the format window: Change File System to NTFS and leave the other settings as they are
9. Click Start (make sure all files/programs using the drive are closed)
10. Once formatting is complete, your drive will be empty and now formatted as NTFS.
11. Open PowerShell as Administrator.
12. Run the following command: "fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify"
(13. TRIM is enabled if it returns: DisableDeleteNotify = 0)
14. Now, open CMD again as Administrator.
15 Run the following command: defrag (your volume initial like C/D/E/F): /L /V
(Wait for the process to complete. If you see optimization results, you're all set!)

That’s It! Now you should be ready to install and play Ashes of Creation on your external SSD — even if it was previously misidentified as an HDD.

Thanks for reading, and I hope this helped someone out there!
