Harvesting Animals

I wanted to share some thoughts on the way harvestable animal nodes currently work in the starting areas. Right now, players need to defeat animal mobs until a harvestable version of the animal spawns. At that point, the special “node” animal can be harvested.

The issue I’ve run into is that while I’m actively fighting mobs to trigger the spawn, another player—sometimes higher level—can simply run up and harvest the animal the moment it appears. This can feel discouraging, especially in the early game where every bit of gathering and progression matters.

I absolutely understand that competition and open-world interaction are part of Ashes of Creation’s design philosophy, and I think that’s an exciting element of the game. That said, in this particular case it can feel less like competition and more like having progress taken away, since the player doing the combat work isn’t the one who benefits.
