Resonant Weapon does not synergize with Counterpoint
Hello,
I’d like to share some thoughts on Counterpoint and its interaction with Resonant Weapon, which I believe highlights a design flaw—especially in PvP scenarios.
In most PvE content, I use Crescendo with whichever single melody the group needs. This works well since I rarely face interrupts or CCs, allowing me to consistently benefit from Crescendo’s +50% power buildup.
In PvP, however—both small and large scale—I’m frequently interrupted, which cancels my melody. In these cases, Counterpoint becomes the better option. Crescendo loses much of its value when melodies must be recast, as the power bonus requires buildup time. With Counterpoint, I can provide a longer 25-second buff that persists even if I’m stunned or interrupted, giving me time to recover and resume playing.
Currently, the real strength of Counterpoint isn’t the ability to stack two melodies—it’s simply the longer, more reliable buff duration. The dual-melody effect is more of a bonus than a core feature.
That said, I feel there’s a lack of melodies that perform well in group PvP without relying on Resonant Weapon.
- Epic Melody’s passive has little impact in group PvP.
- Cheerful and Pensive Melodies don’t effectively address uneven health and mana needs. Passive Cheerful can’t handle burst damage, and Pensive struggles to sustain clerics.
- Cathartic Melody currently underperforms and feels unviable.
- This leaves Menacing Melody, which is the only one that performs reliably without Resonant Weapon.
Right now, my PvP approach is to pre-cast Menacing Melody for the 25-second +10% buff, then swap to Cheerful Melody for additional healing and its Resonant Weapon procs. It feels like the only logical setup when using Counterpoint in group PvP.
To give bards more creative options, I’d suggest:
1. Let Resonant Weapon trigger from both your own melodies that the bard has a buff from, possibly with reduced effectiveness for balance.
2. Rework or buff Cathartic Melody to make it a viable alternative.
Thank you for considering this feedback. I hope this helps improve bard build diversity and balance in PvP.
