General feedbacks

netwar_netwar_ Member, Alpha Two
So I’m new to the game and this is my feedbacks after a few hours of playing (level 1 to 12). Overall, I really enjoy the game, the exploration, the combat, the long levelling process, the crafting, the more hardcore path with a real death penalty and I hope it will continue to improve and stay a more old school approach mmo. Finally, I know it’s an alpha and all of my opinions and suggestions are just wishes to improve the game upon release. :)

Positive feedbacks

1. Leveling
I really like the way it’s designed. I mean, leveling is actually really meaningful. It takes time and this feels rewarding. The xp debt and the lost of crafting items when you die are great ideas to force players to think twice before taking risks. It makes death a real penalty than just running back to your corpse from spawn shrines. The game is not a walk in the park and you will die a lot of you are not paying attention. Hopefully this levelling design will stick to the finish product because I truly enjoyed it.

2. Classes and skills
Very great archetypes designs. Skills and synergies between spells are very fun and skill base.

3. Combat
So far, even if the combat is not perfectly balanced, it feels pretty good at this early stage of the game. Most of the animations are fluid and responsive. It’s fast pace and requires a lot of movement. Great job!

Things that needs improvements

1. Quests without pins on map.
I would really like a questing system that don’t hold your hand. Where you need to listen to the quest giver or read the quest log to know where to go to complete it. But for such a quest system, you need a very detailed world map with a lot of information with region and POI names on it.

2. World map.
I cross my fingers that the final version will have a lot more details on POI, regions, settlements and also be more… stylish ;-)

3. Lack of money sources at low level.
It hard to improve your gear (or even buy rations or repair your stuff!) at the very beginning of the game since there’s every little ways of getting money other than selling gathering materials and glints. Also, the fact that you lost crafting materials when you die make this unfortunate fate even more a scare event!

4. Artisanship.
I touch it a bit to craft a couple of pieces of armor and a weapon. Overall, I liked the dept of the system but theres one thing super annoying: the money cost of processing and crafting. I mean, it’s already super hard to get money at early levels and you need every single penny to buy rations and repair your gear. So, your money (all of them) is already needed just to survive and you don’t really have extras coins to spend on crafting at early levels.

5. Mount animations.
It looks not that great. At least, the horse one. You should take inspiration of New World mounts because animation-wise, they looks fantastic!

Suggestions

1. Travel time
Here, I talk about faster way to travel between settlements. I don’t want to see any teleportation type of fast travel but, I would really enjoy seeing some type of travel that takes some IRL time like gryphon/wyvern in WoW to improve immersion and because traveling in the vast world of Verra is a bit tedious. Some kind of ground bus would be an awesome travel system between settlement cities. Also, it would be great if the very first mount would run a bit faster.

1.1 Speed bonus on trails and roads
Super good idea to encourage people to use roads and to cross other players traveling. But 3% right now is pretty low, I would rather see a flat 10% speed bonus on any major roads on Verra (should also work on running).

2. Roll over target tooltip.
I would really like to see informations of my target on a roll over with the cursor to be able to see its level, type of monster, difficulty, etc.

Thats all for now. Hope to provide more feedbacks within the next months!
