Sport Fishing why copying 10 year old Arch Age is a rusty hook

I'll be honest, I have not been testing Online since Alpha2 Phase 1. I have been underwhelmed with the game overall. Also wanted to avoid burn out.

I had planned to try again on the 10th. But that all depended on the "Sport Fishing" update and wether or not it would captivate me

I just whatched the preview on AOC youtube. To say I was disapointed and my day was ruined would be a fair assment.

Basically from what i understand there has been a 1 to 1 emulation of a stale Arch Age system where you battle a fish it dies in the water...but you dont actually reel in and catch the fish, you literally have to jump into the water to 'catch' it. Reeling in is half the engagement that make fishing enjoyable.

Considering all the artwork of rods with elobarate reels in the early designs but the reels dont actually do anything to retrive the catch (like how modern fishing has worked for more than 100 years) Is lackluster.

Now I was given a speil by an Ashes rep in the comments that this to act as PVP bait by design. All I can say is that its too sweaty and cheap.

I propose that all sucsessful abilties and actions that a strung together along with the critical mechanic (reel in) the target towards a (net/gaff zone) infront of the angler whereby the target must remain for a duration before capture, where by the package will present itself infront of the angler to pickup.

Any PVP during angling can result in a lost fish if the angler chooses to disengage.

If a another player wishes to pickup the package infront of the angler after capture but not back packed will flag PVP.

If the angler collects the the fish capture (backpack) but dies in PVP there is a drop chance %

I belive this system actually makes "Sport Fishing" Sport Fishing, while keeping the PVP incetives intact by premise.

Will not be participating on the 10th phase due to the current fishing implemtation. I have no interested in testing it. And that was the only thing I had hoped would bring me back.

    I wish we actually had competitive artisanry that then flags you up if you decide to do that competition. Like, an actual "you gotta aim your hook throw at the same spot as your competitor and then perform better in the minigame than them (ideally with an additional part of the feature)".

    And I want the same for all the other gathering interactions. A true pvx gathering, where players are competing vs each other, but it directly involves the process of gathering itself.

    People loved that fishing in ArcheAge. Sir Steven - was one of them. Right ? So it makes Sense that he wants to bring something back which he really loved doing ... ...

    Archeages fishing was generally liked in Archeage. However, Ashes is not Archeage. Archeage fishing does not work in Ashes.

    Game fishing in Archeage was a mixture of ship construction, exploration and PvP, but also had a hard cap on it's effectiveness due to the games labor system. It wasn't looked at as "fishing" in the game because all you were doing was going out on the ship you created, finding a resource spawn, collecting that resource and taking it back to an NPC for gold - all while keeping an eye out for potential PvP. The fishing aspect of it was the packaging for the system - actual fishing that gave you fish to use for crafting was a different system.

    I am personally of the opinion that Ashes should change it's game fishing to be spearfishing. Drop the notion of rods, reels and bait and have pepole jump in the water to spear shit - and then have actual fishing be about getting fish to use as fish as opposed to tokens to trade in for coin.
