For those times you want to relax rather than adventure

Sometimes after playing a game for a while I like to just stop, explore and see all the little things that are available but not blatantly obvious. Some games allow you to sit down and join the locals for a smoke, get drunk and stagger around or even sit atop a cliff and play music or maybe find a random npc hidden away who rambles on about nothing for a while.

What are some of your favourite things and experiences you have had whilst exploring various world and maybe would like to see in game to make the world more lively?

I quite enjoy listening to the rambling of the npc's because sometimes they have the most random conversations.

  • I enjoy fishing.
    When I'm not being attacked.
  • i love climbing big mountains to get reach the top and admire the landscape. would like it if it was possible to leave a sign of some sort letting anyone else know that you have been there. i think that would be fun :)
  • One of my main motivations to gear and level up in a MMO is so that I can explore as much of the game as possible. I often prefer to explore on foot too, so I guess that makes me a bit of a MMO hobo.
  • When I'm out gathering and working hard for my guild - sometimes I like to pop into a tavern type place in hope some RPers are there conversing in what ever strange and wonderful things they talk about ^^ Alas the tavern is usually empty :( because they have their own server :(. I don't RP and not very good at but I do enjoy watching others RP and somewhat taking part by sitting in the shadows of the tavern in the back of the room xD
  • In a perfect case scenerio as a pvper, I would like to have no chance for this kind of things due to overwhelming oppourtinities of conflicts. However, we all know this is far from being possible :D So during those dull moments I'd like to explore. Take my boat out in the ocean and explore whatever is out there. Underwater or above water, doesn't matter.
  • Exploring, Fishing
To expand on this how about a "Painting" ability, so you climb to the top of a mountain, pull out you easel and paint away.  The more you level up the better they get, you could have quests linked to painting, and then you could sell your paintings to players to decorate their homes.
  • Exploration might the THE thing for me. I enjoy finding hidden/secret places that not many know about, and make them my own. Not literally, no banner placing and such — more like making a personal map of location I particularly enjoy in addition to the usual in-game map.

  • I spent many an hour with my wife on MMOs so we an of had a second life in the game. We when on walks, when out for meals and just lived life as you would in real life, now I think back it may have seemed odd to onlookers, but for us, it was second nature
  • When not hard at work with what ever task is most pressing I love lone wolf exploring.  My adventuring toon is always as mobile as possible. I always have RUN AWAY! and HELP! Hot keyed ;)

You won't get to hear conversations because there won't be voice overs haha.

But yeah, the social aspect of games will be very important. I like to decorate my house during lull time. Or quietly go into the wilds to gather resources.
  • Mostly exploring, gathering, crafting... I like to get my professions up :3
  •  I can't believe I forgot about decorating houses @AutumnWillow!
    Hours and hours!
Then dressing up... rping.... happy sigh

I used to be able to take long hikes on primitive trails up the mountains and into the forests with my dog and I greatly miss those times.  I have always enjoyed adventuring into dangerous untamed lands in games and finding a mountain top with good views or a lovely pond to fish in.  Unless the locals had other plans and chased me way!
Crafting and decorating my home was a way to spend long hours of relaxing in other games to while away the time when most others were not around.
  • In EQ it was fishing; in DAoC a friend and I would go watch sunsets in different spots; in EQ2 it's crafting, decorating, sometimes harvesting; in BDO it was just running the roads with my gypsy merchant wagon; Aion and GW2 was enjoying scenic views almost everywhere; and in most games exploring.
  • Exploring and Fishing are usually my go to for relaxation (when not getting attacked). I dont mind PvP but not always am I in the mood for it and just wanna chill.

I also like to take pictures of the landscape or of my character at beautiful areas. When not that I would take some time decorating my house or checking out outfits on the cash shop. ;)

In another game (GW2) exploring and coming across a jumping puzzle was fun.

I agree with liking fishing, but the risk of getting ganked makes it far from relaxing for me.

I hope my guild organizes fishing groups with a few geared people scattered around the pond. Then I could relax into it a bit

Unless we find a decent fishing place that's on a no PvP zone

Were such a thing to exist, I would definately go there!

I want to see the mechanic of players going to a pub and or cafe to get buffs from sitting down and drinking/eating for a set time. forces you to socialise. I imagine people will exploit and go afk, but maybe if you talk in /local then the time is reduced.

Buff such as hardy: get set damage resistance over time, or Social: banter has refined your barter so you get a set reduction to npc prices for a time... so on.

Your "perfect scenario" is my hell.  If the game was nothing but non-stop PvP with no chance for exploration and such, a great many of us would leave and never look back.  PvP is fine and has it's place in the game. But I loathe games that are nothing but PvP.

I love how you refer to getting smashed off your face as a buff.
  • As a few of you mentioned... fishing. Seriously, treasure map or old boot, I love it.

    Aye
Oh, I'm just a social drinker. Every time someone says, 'I'll have a drink', I say, 'So shall I

I love fishing. And I've made a lot of money out of it in other games.

    Ol' Crafty, anybody.
  • Ol' Crafty, anybody.
Sigh! So much fishing in Org and I never caught that thing :disappointed:
  • I totally love doing that stuff. Just sitting there watching the world go by and enjoying things as they be. Sometimes cleaning the blood off your plate armor and taking a break in the local tavern to drink with some rowdy dwarves is just fantastic. Might even go fishing early in the morning cause you know your not getting any sleep unless you end up in a ditch naked.

A hangover is bad enough, but those armor drycleaning bills must be outrageous!
