Ruminations on cash shop.

You see, I've already seen that the cash shop will be cosmetics only, what I hope for now is that the development team don't focus on putting more content on the cash shop than on the game. I see two aproaches on the situation, One is the wow like, where not much is put on the cash shop, anothes is guild wars like, where every week there's a new item or several new itens on cash shop, although, on Gw2 the currency for the cash shop being capable of being acquired on game. The game being with a subscription, I wouldn't mind any of the aproaches, I wouldn't like to see too much content being gated behind the cash shop, the game being p2p too.

I hope i made myself clear above, and I beg your pardon for my english, not a natural speaker.
(Also I would love to have a playable goblin race, I don't think there will be but one can always dream.)

  • I'm sure when the game launches they will have a decent selection of mounts/costumes/pets and such that they plan to be cash shop exclusive, but like you mentioned it's sub based so that immediately makes it so they don't have to focus as much on the cash shop just to be making ends meet. <-the best part about sub based games if you ask me.

That being said as their team expands(it's kinda small right now), they will probably have a team that's primary focus is the cash shop.

I feel like that's really a big reason why they are going p2p; it alleviates the need for finding new ways to make money off the players, and puts focus directly on making the game as good as it can be, and that's something Intrepid really seems to want to do.

That's what makes me really excited about this game - a focus on game content and the player experience over finding new ways to extract monet from the player base.
  • A quote from Steven the creative director from discord.

    "Steven - 01/18/2017
Updated cosmetic answer, still answering other questions, 10 minutes till I have to enter another design meeting
There will be a balance. Players will have a wide range of cosmetics available through in-game accomplishment and progression, as well as a wide variety of purchasable cosmetics for players who are more casual and would prefer to support the game through the cash shop. Either way, player customization will be achievable from a cosmetic standpoint readily throughout the game."

Obviously it's only words, but we can at least hope they stay true to it.
