Addition to caravans
This may sound terrible or a little weird. Feel free to shut it down you wont hurt my feelings at all.
Crafting and collecting materials is going to be massive. I read somewhere we can have shops but i could be mistaken. What if we were able to sell our materials to npcs and npcs sold it to players at a certain price based on supply and demand (think wow tokens as it grows and declines in price).
The catch would be you can only sale meat to meat vendors and herbs to flower vendors etc. But you have to visit that specific npc someone listed it in to buy the items. It would more like a town AH instead of a server one and the price would be based on what the players of the economy need.
Then you can come back in a day or two. And collect a portion of whatever the merchant sold.
To keep from over abundance the npc could also stop getting lets say apples when he already has like 200 of them.
This would also keep players from underselling someone else or creating a monopoly on the market.
This would make caravans even bigger as people would put a little in each nodes merchants. To try to reach as many people as they can.
They can also do it with risk if a node gets destroyed the merchants die or despawn causing you to lose whatever they were trying to sell for you.

I don't believe I agree with a server established price (based on supply and demand) as I feel this would take away from a truly player-based economy. I think the monopolies would work themselves out with having to post sales to local shops (instead of server-wide) in addition to the necessity of having a venerable caravan for moving large quantities of goods from point A to point B.
I like the risk element if a node gets destroyed then the vendor is lost.
I think the above would certainly help with immersion into the world from a player perspective. I don't know that it would be wise to limit sales to "only" npc vendors though. Still allow player shops (in nodes or out on personal property) but still require travel to obtain said purchase.
disclaimer: Yes, I am the hard head that also does not believe in a global search option. I think (personal opinion) that everything should be found via exploration or word of mouth advertising.
Just my 2 cents (pence, pennies, schillings, pesos, etc etc)
Could also do traveling merchants who also go town to town. Selling supplies but make their inventory more limited and they take a larger cut but you have a higher chance to sell your goods that way.
As for player shops do the players have to be their to sell their goods. If so that does become frusterating or if you dont have to be there it would make the whole idea pointless. Idk it depends on what the devs wish for.
Say for example you are a blacksmith. In a node, you can own a shop where you can sell gear, and also repair gear as well provided they supply materials or pay you for them. This is a cool way to improve trade and economy as for this to work, you have to transport your goods via the caravans, which makes the economy work. Having an AH in towns would make it so this would be lost from the game, so I think you should expect a lot more in terms of player shops and less of the sorts of AH.
Don't quote me that there wont be any sort of AH or anything, but I am hoping there wont be as this would cancel out the need of player run shops which are confirmed to be in the game.
If you look under the Crafting and Economic section of <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/14luppZ3Ub8jmcw_aK65QWxYY4xa8qAo9zRfpYWBxOXE/edit" target="_blank">THIS DOCUMENT</a> it will show you more.

My worry about that is are we going to have 1000 shops per server and have to go to each individual one to see prices? Will the players need to be online for us to buy from them and if so will they need to be inside their shops? Or is there only so many shops able to be built due to lack of space in the nodes if so that would possibly hurt other players. If any of that make sense.
Either way we only have little information so far we will have a bigger picture as information is released. This is the second company i have ever felt like i had faith in a company. The first was blizzard. And they did well at the start.
