I've been watching Atom: The Beginning, so.... It's kinda like robot wars. A key aspect of the strategy is how you build your combatant/robot/character. It's not just the speed at which you can maneuver the controls.
Most important should be how well you built the combatant/robot/character. And, what you really learn from defeat is how to adjust the build parameters. Gear is only one part of the build.
