Hey! My name is Allan and I’ve finally mustered the courage to present myself. I hope to engage in the premises of a great community. Since this is a Video Game forum, I’ll focus on the in-game side of my life, not that being an English Teacher in Paris isn’t an adventure but I digress.
From the moment I knew how to read, GameBooks were my thing. Imagining my adventures was my way of escaping reality. Power Rangers, Pokémon and all that jazz did help a lot. But my first stepping stone into gaming was my father. I was lucky that my Dad was into video games (he had an Atari and a Nintendo Entertainment System), and we spent a lot of time playing together. Time flew, grades came in and the first system I could afford with my yearly allowance was the GameBoy and a few games. I still have it today with some cartridges like Pokémon, Batman, Tetris, Megaman, The Legend of Zelda, Mario and company. Of course, when the Super Nintendo came out, my dad was already on the case. But I was the one playing the majority of the time.
Of all the games I played, those which really hit me were the ones with heavy emphasis on the story, on the characters’ personalities and links, and last but certainly not least, those epic fights! To name a few here are my top 3 RPG game franchises:
On the Eastern side: The Legends of Zelda (Majora’s Mask being my favorite, Breath of the Wild is really cool though), Suikoden (the 2nd episode is the best, the 3rd one has a cool PoV system) and Fire Emblem (Thracia 776 and Fuin no Tsurugi were my favorites).
Honorable Mention: Seiken Densetsu, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire, Sky of Arcadia, Rogue Galaxy, Baiten Kaitos, Phantasy Star Online, Legend of Dragoons.
On the Western side: Dungeons and Dragons (Neverwinter Nights being my favorite followed by Baldur’s Gate), Star Wars (Knights of the Old Republic) and Guild Wars (the first one has a special place in my heart)
Honorable Mention: Ultima and Wizardry, almost everything from Bioware, Bethesda and Blizzard Entertainment, Vampire: The Masquerade, Arcanum, the Witcher.
Of course, my game repertoire isn’t all RPGs, I was addicted to some other games like Street Fighter, Smash Bros, Counter Strike, Quake, Half-Life, Worms, Warcraft 2-3 and recently League of Legends. But RPGs were my favorite kind of games. Alas, I couldn’t play World of Warcraft when it came out because I was too young to have a subscription, and I didn’t want my parents to pay for it so instead I discovered the land of Tyria.
Guild Wars was, by far, my favorite Online RPG game (it was marketed as an Co-Operative Online Role Playing Game) and its’ class system was my favorite. I have also played a lot of Star Wars: the Old Republic, I even managed a Multigaming group/guild of friends that have claimed some world first and some high ranking Arena/PvP score. With those same friends we’ve been playing some Tabletop RPG games, and what has come out of it is that I am a social completionist player that tends towards lawful characters (but they can be Evil). I wasn’t always a player, I’ve also delved into moding and dungeon mastering. Specially with Star Wars: KotOR for the former, and Ashes of Valkana for the latter.
All in all I hope you had fun reading about me, I’m looking forward to our exchange and mutual entertainment! I’m eager to test the game and can't wait to talk about it to my circle!
