Ideas for Taverns in AoC

Would anyone else want to see taverns and inns play an important role in AoC? I think it would be cool if they acted as kind of a meeting spot for players. Maybe there could be some incentive for going to a tavern like getting some of your exp debt reduced by staying there for a while by participating in tavern actives like tavern games, gambling, duels, or listening to other players perform music in the taverns. Maybe there could also be a small buff given to players just in general for spending sometime there as well. Also, there could be seasonal/event mini-games or activities to keep things fresh. I think this would be an awesome feature and could actually make taverns a lively place to be! Do you guys think this could be an interesting addition to AoC? Or have any other ideas for features that could be implemented to taverns or inns?

  • the idea of having a tavern as a meeting point is never a bad idea. and might be a good reason for people to start running player drivern taverns .
  • As long as they ban the "ERPing". I would hate to see a player driven establishment turn into a place like Goldshire in WoW.

    Cyrrena
  • Could always give people that want to do that a safe haven, or a designated zone for it leprechaun. Have inns, taverns, and brothels. It get lonely rediscovering the world :P

On a serious note tho, I really like the idea. Could offer interesting mechanics, as long as it doesn't turn into a "I have to go to the tavern every day to get an xp bonus" thing. Would be a neat idea for xp debt, and even maybe a way to work off corruption. Have seedy little taverns on the outskirts of town where corrupt player have to go spend time drinking and getting into nonlethal bar brawls to lower corruption by a small amount based on time spent there.

  • Star Wars Galaxies had a system sort of like that. There were musician and dancer classes that hung out in cantinas and helped you recover...something...I can't remember exactly what you got from hanging out around them.
  • Could also be used as a means of fast travel, tavern to tavern

[/quote] 99% sure there will be no fast travel in this game because of the caravan system.fast travel would make it far to easy for high level guilds to pillage every caravan
  • I think taverns would be a great place to hear all the latest rumors and gossip in a ever changing world. "I thought I saw a dragon up in the hills above town" the gossip could help point players in the right direction of new activities without giving exact details so we'd still have to export the world but at least have a general idea of where to look.
  • Taverns & Inns.. Yes please

Rest - maybe cook up a quickie meal, or drink a brew-skee. Or just general overall chat, getting to know people in game.

Have a mailbox outside to dump your stuff in your bank, etc. We are going to have bankers? Yes? - No?? Cause I read somewhere we will have a weight limit, correct?

Yeah musicians and dancers helped you recover lost HAM (health, action, mind). When you died a bit of your stat got blacked out untill you visited an entertainer. Of course this led to alts just running scripts in guild cantinas while people were at work, but writing those scripts was actually a fun challenge (for me at least) and made people invested in your guild, the guilds town and community.

If this game can recreate the great guild experience I had in SWG i'll be hooked for years.
  • Yeah sure, why not. Maybe a Performer artisan class could be included for these meeting places?

It would also be cool if the meeting place grew as the node leveled up. Like a level 1 camp would just have a couple log-benches around a campfire; a town could have a tavern; and a Metropolis could an entire forum (not the online kind, the ancient Roman kind). Additionally, the tavern functions could be extended to a fair ground during events and festivals.
