• To be honest i dont see a problem at all, its a marketing strategy. And the arguments they are bringing is their own opinion. Everybody in the End decides for themself. It just looks to me like those 5 podcaster forget or dont know how much it costs these days to develop a game, and it costs even more to keep a game going. I think this remotay guy should take some marketing classes, before talking so negative about a marketing strategy, the industry changed a lot to 5 years ago, and studios need funding and competitive to compete with larger studios.
• They should wear clown hats in this video so at least one thing would make sense.
• Hey CumCherryPie, Im going to be as honest as possible.
The main argument is that they use a referal programme prior kick-stater game,
So basiclly, promoting an "none existing content". just to clarify, most games follow this pattern;
they make concept art and write some ideas down, and you open a crowd funding to see if your ideas worth your time.
Steven (the main developer and CEO of Intrepid) have been developing the game out of his own pocket for an year (so the game DOES exist) which they kept repeating.
2nd point, ANY type of promotion is always good, because it will bring money.
This money could be used to further develop the game, and invest in proper servers.
In the end of the day if the word gets out about a game that you trsut and believe in, what they refer to as "hype", it will grow a community that is there from the start, to learn, explore and help CRAFT the game I hope we all will grow to love.

That was my 2 cents on the matter ^^
hope to hear yours
• It's far from MLM and I think it's much better than highly edited advertisement videos/other campaings for huge amount of money which could go to making the game better.
• I think that a lot of attention both positive and negative has been given to the referral program. The positive aspect of the referral program is that as the game grows, member who have participated in marketing the game get something back from this interaction. Hence there is incentive to participate in the marketing aspect of the game. Conversely people also see this as a negative marketing technique as it is often employed by pyramide scheme companies. However, multiple parntership programs exist within different lines of business. Amazon does for example feature partnership links. G2A, features partnership codes, Twitch is implementing their own gameshop where you give back to content creators through the use of the game shop. Games such as world of warcraft also feature scrolls of ressurection, recruit a friend and programs a like, all to foster participation.

However the model deviates from pyramide schemes, as it relys on actual income gains to the company rather than paying for link to member turn-over. It exactly the same as these tactic employed through partnership programs with other businesses. Your piece of the cake relies upon the participation of others. And referrals cancel eachother out, as Intrepid studios is a company, and not the federal reserve, that can print money whenever they need it. Hence one should be aware that this is just a marketing technique, its not very "scummy" as some people have said in the past, its merely a means to meet a goal, and to gather participation.

On the topic of referral links, there has also been discussions about referrals, and how some people might not be straightforward about the link they send. With the implementation of such a system, one also introduces the concept of competition. Within competition people are willing to go to different means to reach their goal. Some might actually buy adds on google to advertise the game and gain referrals. Whilst others may share the link with their close circle. In the end both kinds of strategies yield results. However I do not feel like I am in any position to make up what seems right or wrong from your moral perspective, but from a pure competitive perspective, I do not see a problem with referrals, nor how some people choose to gain new and wonderful members to our community.
• Its good that it will bring ppl and money to the game but it can also make youtubers like TheLazyPeon and so on fake the excitement for the game and not do a real review just so they can make money.
• I see where this guy is coming from. It's wise to have reservations about investing any time or money into this game before a playable something is released.

Even though there have been a bunch of gameplay videos released so far, there isn't anything stopping this ship from sinking faster than the Titanic.

Jason Appleton, the guy who was supposed to create "Greed Monger" on crowdfunding and personal financing (just like Steven here), stole over $100,000 in Kickstarter funding and didn't release a damn thing. He, too, had a "shady, scummy" background in sales and marketing, and used that to woo a bunch of us neckbeards into investing in what sounded like the perfect MMORPG. No action was, or ever will be, brought against him, because Kickstarter's guarantee is a joke.

Will this Steven Sharif person do the same? Anything's possible.

Will words of caution stop people from trying to make a buck with these referral links? Of course not.
• This , this is the one of the problems i see, its almost like they are cashing in on it.. i mean is it a fact that you get a portion of real money into your bank account from the referral system from the funding?? i'm still new to this so im not sure what's going on just researching stuff

The way the refferal system works is Player 2 buys a subscription -> Player 1 where player 2 reffered to gets 15% of that. This can either be desposited back in your bank account or ingame currency. Its a smart marketing strategy because you get the word of the game out. But in terms of revenue its terrible because the company doesnt gain any money from it. All in all it only benefits the player. because I can guarantee you some youtubers wouldn't have created a video if it wasnt for the refferal system.
