Combat thoughts..

Wondering if this will be something similar to ESO with an almost aiming feature.

  • It's hard to tell exactly what the combat will involve until we get to play it. There will be tab targetting where you can lock onto your target, but also abilities and functions that are aimed manually. We have no idea of the balance between the 2 mechanics and won't until the game goes into alpha testing.

    What is the Combat system like?
    It is a hybrid between Tab-target and Action Combat. The combat is going to be a combination of targeting method and positional mechanics that will dictate and determine the ability of skills to land and the efficacy of those skills. Included in the plans for combat is fluid chain attacks and animation cancels.

    Judging from this I would say that the combat looks to be a lot like GW2 combat of being a hybrid between action and tab targeting.
  • I was recently informed that the sieges of other nodes will not be right away and leave the defending node "caught with their pants down". Instead there will be a declaration period that lets both sides/nodes to prepare for battle. Although I am not sure how long this period is and if it can be controlled by the players it's comforting to know that the sieges will have to take place with everyone in the node ready to fight!

    Errr....that's great and all but what has that got to do with the combat system?
  • I think everyone is tired of tab target at this point and going for pure tab target is a suicide ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    I would like to see the action target based combat with soft aim lock. Something similar to Black Deset Online I dont know a single person who played it and wasn't amazed by the combat and how impactful it is.

    No you would be wrong. A few very vocal people are tired of Tab Target. And BTW BDO combat was crap. Thats why only 90K people play it.

    I know plenty of people who stopped playing BDO at least partly because of the combat system, myself included. With every weapon swing being some kind of AoE arc it felt so cheap. Combat had no depth or tactics to it. Im not saying BDO's combat is bad per se, just not suited to an mmorpg.

    In fairness, if you are looking at it from a PvP perspective, especially 1v1, i can see how BDO combat would be fun and appealing to many. But from the perspective of a group dungeon, it would be a horrible, shallow experience.

    Im all for tab targetting, perfectly happy with a hybrid system. Action combat itself can be done well as long as its tame enough with tactics. But please nothing like BDO.....
  • as long as it isnt like For Honour . i hate that combat system. i think mostly because i am a spaz with teh mouse controls for sword fights, and it seems dumb. :)
  • I was very happy to hear about the flagging PvP system. It reminds me of <strong>Lineage 2</strong> and for this reason I believe a pure tab targeting system would be the only way to go.
