Fishing?

Would love to see how they will be approaching fishing... Been my favorite mmo activity (archage max fishing lol). Anyone else interested in fishing and if so any ideas or comments on what you would like to see in it.... Going to purchase access when they start a kickstarter and i am going to thoroughly test every fishing aspect i can find so i can be ready for release :) if that feature is available that is

  • I hope they make fishing more of a mini game then other mmos have in the past. I'd love to see a fishing system go something like this.

    1. Pick your bait for a specific type of fish your fishing for

    2. Mouse over the location your trying to cast to and press rmb to cast (type of pole and fishing skill would make landing your cast in the right spot easier or harder)

    After cast use rmb to reel in and move mouse to try to make your bait move in a specific direction

    If you get a bite use lmb to set the hook and rmb to continue to reel the fish.....if the fish starts pulling to hard you have to stop reeling so you don't break your line and if it's starting to get loose from the hook youd need to reset the hook by pressing lmb again
  • Deep sea fishing would be absolutely awesome, too. If you could grab a fishing boat and head out to sea, rather than just standing on the shore. Fishing holes and honey pots unique to your account would be cool, too and a good reason to be a full-time fisherman.
  • I am completely for this, I have always loved fishing in all games. I think a combo of Torchlight 2 and FFXV. Like what Darthaden said as far as that bait and picking the right spot, but then have like something like a bar, circle, or something so you have to press buttons at the right time or something, so you can't just throw it out there and then click one button and you get a fish. You could even have fishing poles be loot, like from a fishing tournament or something. It could also play into the whole node system. You could have some fish only near some nodes show up at certain node levels or even have fish as one of the caravans that you have to protect/attack. The more I type about this the more I get excited lol.

    This sounds brilliant and fun, and I'm sure a system like this will be added. Put it this way, the effort they're going through developing every other aspect of the game, makes it hard to believe that fishing will be a cop out!

    Oh and add sailing please, imagine guild fishing boats, complete with master fishermen, nets and even accompanied by smaller combat ships to defend their catch? Yes please, let the great fishing wars commence!

    Back in the first year or so, when fishing was a huge thing, we had all of those things going on.
    Massive fishing raids (for mutual protection from pirates), pvp, fishing boats getting stolen, etc

    See, now THAT is cool. Especially if a lone fisherman minding his own business has a chance to accidentally fish up a Kraken, leading to a world encounter :P Also I'd imagine that the Kraken may have swallowed the odd epic fishing pole over the years..

    Back to the point of the thread - tool crafting is definitely a good idea. Artisan pole-crafters would be a nice thing to see around: You get the lumberjacks cutting the wood, the pole crafter makes fishing poles, harpoons etc, then the fisherman purchases these to fish bigger fish or a specific type of fish
  • My biggest thing that i am looking forward to is to have it be like archages fishing but better. I really miss having the fish be more than just an item in your inventory and seeing it actually on your back or hooked up on your boat etc. I want the activity of fishing to be engaging, so some kind of mini game and more than just click and wait, but i want everything afterward to be interesting as well. I do also like the idea of fishing tournaments that can get you better items to fish with, and having them transported by caravans would be a good touch as well.
  • They said cooking was going to be a big deal and what you eat affects your character (weight and health) so fishing will definitely be important. I don't know if their going to make it very intense though apart from the fish monsters that will probably attack you.
  • Fishing (gathering), preparing (processing), and cooking (crafting).

    Could there be a taxidermist branch added so we can mount our best prizes in our homes? Could taxidermist be part of the processing mechanic? A lot to find out and look forward to.

    How about being able to place a pond or small lake in our node house acreage? Invite friends over for a little fishing and fish fry?

    As one of the best dwarven fisherman around I heartily endorse any and all greatness that the team can add to the game for us serious fishers of wet, wiggly things.
  • Honestly having a small fishing pond in your free home would be a nice touch. or if you could maybe set up your house along the water and fish off your deck XD so many fun possibilities.
  • Im all for this. Anything to do with water and ill be all over it.
    They say that you can be a jack of all trades or a true master in one trade tree?
    tell me which one is linked to the water and ill be a master in that tree.

    I have worked with fishing as easy as click and forget to systems were you had to build everything including your boat. Love them all Especially if I could be a shipwright. I would strive for that.

  • Fishing/hunting and the wildlife involvement would be an absolutely amazing and in some way a unique experience.

    Since there's really no other mmo, that treats wildlife as some different type of entity...

    Usualy you just kill em for some experience and that's it. Yet it would be awesome if you would actualy be able to "hunt" these animals down for some additional goods...

    Like for example hunting down a bear would grant you some of his fur, which could provide a great resource to craft an armor from.

    Killin an elephant (these are just some random examples), could give you one of his huge bone thingy's, which you could craft a weapon from..

    And the same applies to fishing...
    Get some fish for potions, food, whales for something else, etc...

    The potential of wildlife is limitless.
    Yet the work that has to be done in order to do something like this is huge.
    So i dont really think that such a thing is gonna be available at the early stage of the game whatsoever...

    But i definitely can see how this could work in an amazingly unique way.

    Steven has stated that resources will not instantly respawn - Now whether this is just ore veins and forests or it will also apply to wildlife and fish remains to be seen. Would like to see it happen, if not at launch then should the game be successful, in later developments. The players could over-hunt and -fish leading to shortages in one area which would necessitate trade with a resource rich node elsewhere.

    Has been speculated elsewhere that seasons could affect crops. Don't see this game having a hunger mechanic but should it be included then wars over not just resources but arable land as well as hunting and fishing grounds could also take place.

  • Strange, no one has mentioned Black Desert. I've been making good money, fishing, and I have a boat. There are sailboats, whale hunting and pirates. Even if there is no fishing, I'm really excited about Ashes of Creation.

    Yeah building boats and whale hunting are pretty cool but the wasd mini game in black desert imo is just silly imo.
  • I never really played Archage but I did youtube a video on it seems cool long..... but the animations are awesome

    Back in wow I would fish for "Deviate Fish" and then cook it to make "Savory Deviate Delight" then sell it
    (it was a item you can eat and it would put a costume on you.... Pirate or Ninja its random )

    The animation for Fishing in WOW was really Simple not much work put into it

    cast a line and your bobber would jump and you right click it and you got the fish
    so not much work but oddly it was fun


    Hunting in Wow theirs a profession called "Skinning" you would skin for the fur not much animation their either
    I would like to see hunting an actual thing with animation and everything

    (WOW was made in 2004 so yeah.... )
  • Hopefully it doesn't go along with the lines of Black Desert Online where you can AFK Fish for hours on end until the durability of your pole gets to 0.

    I do like how they handled fishing in ArcheAge with the fishing boats and the random raids after you had the baited areas and would have 10-12 boats fishing in the one area protecting each other for as long as they could handle.
  • Fishing is fun , so AoC is gonna be fun with good fishing
  • ArcheAge has the best fishing mechanic I have ever seen (and I've been a fisherman in many an MMO), with actually having to fight the fish and scoop it up after the fight was over as well as putting it in a livewell on your boat for transport back to port. Losing the fish either through line breakage or pirates was a real deal and provided awesome tension during fishing...Hopefully the devs have checked out these ideas!
