Is majority of UE4 design bought?

From the looks of this game a majority of the design was pre-built and bought off the UE4 marketplace. Can this be confirmed or denied?

If confirmed what keeps me interested in a game that was pieced together from things bought off the UE4 market place?

examples Medevil pack and rome fantasy pack both have a lot of the same design as the Game AoC.

Like every game in development, placeholders are used to have a sence of how things have to look and feel. So i'm pretty sure they either use prebuild packages or unpolished work in progress.

I can understand rough work but these are paid for packages off the UE4 marketplace.

also the magic animations looks to be bought off the UE4 marketplace.

You're probably right. But a good engine in the hands of those who know how to use it can do a lot of interesting things. The promises are good for a new MMO. Meanwhile, we wait for more videos, more gameplays and reviews. Let's hope they hit the pitch.

UE4 is a beast I agree with that just lost a lot of hype when so many things they have are easily bought.

Do devs ever reply on forums?
• Options
They might, but also it has only been less than two hours since the original post. My advice is to wait and see. :)

I asked this same question in Discord and Yaivey said that after they get the Kickstarter going and put in the revamped Forum that the devs will be more active in answering Forum(s).

I work heavily in Unreal Engine and visit the UE4 Marketplace regularly. I can confirm that at least the majority of the assets I am seeing in their videos are not made by IntrepidStudios. Just go on the UE4 marketplace and look for yourself. As soon as I saw one of their youtube videos so much of it looked familiar.

Although they can legally use any marketplace items they purchase in their game, why would I want to back a game that is at this point, just a bunch of ideas spoken over cinematic style footage of pre-done game assets on rails? And on that note, they haven't given us much to go off of..

Games need money to be able to be made.. I understand that. You have to hire artists, animators, level designers, QA, producers, the list goes on. If they had more to show up front I may think about backing this game. The things I would like to see at the very least, working in-engine for an MMO Kickstarter would be.. Character Customization (even just different armor), Some Weapons, Classes, Abilities (not just payed for vfx with damage numbers), Inventory System, Crafting & Professions Like Mining (animations , procedural random scattering etc), a Working NPC System (not npc's on rails), Party/Guild System, Approx Size of Map, if there is an economy then how will that work, and the most important for an immersive mmo, Lore & Story! They should go work some of this out and do a kickstarter at a later time.

The only thing I've seen of any interest is the Nodes system in which they have not shown even a demo in engine It's just a guy speaking his idea about what he would want in the game. If this game is funded they will be instantly deep in money and there's nothing wrong with that, but will they use that money to make the game of your dreams? Will they complete it and if so will it just be just a half baked game that barely fulfills their promise. I cannot say they won't finish it or be great even, but from the very little we have actually seen who knows? Not worth the chance for me. Could just be another "Revival Kickstarter" failure. Ya go read about that if you haven't.. poor backers.

What I am saying is be careful. This is a risk of your money but the main thing you are risking is showing other devs that they can make instant bucks with nothing to show and with no legal obligation to fulfill any promise. This has been going on forever and we would just be hurting ourselves in the end. It's time as gamers that we start question devs. Great games can be made if we stop falling for this seemingly never ending loop of trickery. In the end do what you want with your money. Can't hurt right?..

This is the same thing that happened with Greed Monger. Guy comes along, buys a bunch of pre-made assets for Unity, hires a programmer to stitch them together, makes a voice-over video of his dreams and aspirations...

...And it ends up being bullcrap. Jason Appleton stole $100,000 on Kickstarter for that damn game. I'll never trust a Kickstarter program again. AoC has only a slightly more promising feeling to it.

I can only sit back and cringe at the folks in the discord chat that are already jumping at the idea of a $400 lifetime subscription to AoC.

I beg you, be cautious. I disregarded the nay-sayers, and I ended up losing money. A LOT of money.

@Evolover

I sure agree with you that one should be cautious regarding KS campaigns, I do have some faith on AoC's promises (Intrepid so far is looking very serious and professional), but I will always be participating with a grain of salt until I can play a finished product. I too urge other backers to not spend ludicrous amounts of money, I understand your enthusiasm and willingness to help, but be ready to take the risk. Furthermore, your post wasn't deleted by the devs, the forums sometimes deletes posts that are edited.

Every precaution is important. Actually, unfortunately, it seems that the developers bet on the hype at a very early stage without having anything concrete in their hands. It was necessary to have more than scenarios and intentions to show.

You can talk to Devs on the AoC discord channel, just message them and they should answer you at some point, unless its been already answered.

As for the integrity of intrepid studios and the risk with the kickstarter. Well it does seem like a big promise, and some of the assets do look familiar from the asset store but, they do need some sort of placeholders, and temporary building blocks to start visualising and building the game. If an artist is holding back a programmer they usually just place a temporary asset and work on the mechanics or the back end programming to test stuff whilst the artist animator or designer finish their parts. You cant just sit back and wait for someone to finish their work to progress with yours, hence you're seeing assets that are standard asset store assets.

Also I'm sure well see more cool stuff on the day of the kick start with more unique pieces of art, design etc. I have faith! But also fund at your own risk, that's my advice :)

Whats the difference between a company hunting around for and outsourcing specialist work to third parties
..and going to a third party meeting place with specialist libraries, to purchase assets by those same third parties?
The only difference I see, is the company has to hunt around for the third parties one by one, instead of going to the meeting place.

In my honest opinion the concept of a market place with specialist assets, is there to speed up production considerably.
ie employ those 'pre-built' components in a way suitable for your game design.
It does not remove the necessity to have a game design to begin with.
Wow uses buildings. GW2 uses buildings too. Would you criticise if they had the same art style and used the same buildings because they were the most suitable and best quality for both ?

I think reducing production time through payment rather than man hours only benefits us. Who does the work doesn't really matter (internally or externally). What matters is that the work was done.
Art assets are the most time consuming aspect of any game. If we had an open source databank of art assets I am sure the game world would be a much better place. Where you can worry about gameplay development rather than asset development

People repeatedly cry that it takes 5 years or more to develop a proper MMO.
99% of that time is spent on art assets creation and world building.
99% of that time is spent reinventing the same god damn wheel.

Hunting around for 3rd party companies to handle work is different from buying a generic UE4 Marketplace Item.

Using 3rd party companies can be controlled with contracts and have unique designs.
Using UE4 marketplace means anybody can use the same models. As of right now you can probably spend 2-3k on UE4 market place and make their trailer. So in other words for 2-3k I can make the same game and call it something else. Then ask for backing on kick starter.
If they are just using generic UE4 marketplace items for place holders I can understand.

So until I get an answer my hype and backing will be non existent.

PLEASE GAMERS, SUPPORT THEM!
In my humble opinion (and I never backed a kickstart project yet), it is ok to say "I won't back kickstarter because you never know what you get..." but on the other hand I would suggest that you just wait for it to get a game and then support it.
If a new technology is developed like the mass production of graphene, the development can not make any progress without fundings...
we would for ever be caught in the stagnated time of low preformance batteries and inefficient energyproduction.... and earth would die within another hundred years.
The only hope we have is, that there are some people out their who are willing to take the risk!
Ok, comparing a game to an earth-saving technology is kinda.... well, out of context, but I think you get my idea.
So I would support it as soon as I would get the additional promise of a balanced action combat system and a nice complex progression system compared to Path of Exile and Dungeon Siege.
Until then I need to save my money for something more worthy... like graphene :)
BUT PLEASE GAMERS, SUPPORT THEM!

The discord would be your best bet for asking the devs, just search ashesofcreation on discord

I just spent a bit looking through the UE4 store and in all honesty.... I didn't see anything that looked suspicious to me. I didn't compare many objects side by side, most was just by memory, but I did check with the road showed in the last livestream and the fantasy road pack AND none of them matched (unless theirs a road somewhere else on the store, which is stupid). Now those pack things could be from the store but I swear I find those in every mmo I've played or something
Also most kick starters I've seenhave literally NOTHING to show at this point, so even if there's placeholders I still trust the team more than those kick starters. But, I still only gave how much I can live without, if I'm wrong I won't die
