Damage meters and addons

Has there been any mention of if these will be in the game?

I think I recall it being mentioned they don't want it to be in the game, and that displays such as HP, mana and stuff on enemies will be kept vague to prevent some of that behaviour.

"Addons will not be allowed, in general."

"The developers don't want addons/mods to be necessary to experience the game. The developers believe that parsers (DPS meters) can have negative effects."

Steven said there wouldn't be one. Now if you feel like reading

If the game becomes really successful and popular, which i really hope there will be a damage meter. May it be an internal feature or an external. As long as you can parse the damage you deal you can build a database on that and share it with other people of your group to build a working damage meter.
I am not promoting this but it will happen.

While addons won't be allowed in Ashes, I've been suggesting for a long while now that Intrepid implement a combat tracker (DPS meter, but with a more accurate name) to the game client itself - potentially with restrictions.

If they don't implement one themself, someone else will implement one for them - whether Intrepid give it the ok or not.

There will be combat trackers, probably third party since although some on the dev team see the value of such a useful info gathering tool, Steven doesn’t want one.

firstly, with the current build damage meters are not 'that' required to those that are really dedicated to hitting the pve limits.
    e.g
you check your physical stats and see str 100, dex 50
your greatsword auto attack hits 125 damage
you increase your dex to 60
your greatsword auto attack now hits for 130 damage

furthermore, i believe i heard somewhere (no source sorry) that they don't want DPS to be the be all end all of pve and that mechanics of the fight itself may be a restriction.
i get that lots of people are.. reliant on dps meters, but all they do is display a calculatable value. so i dont see the need for people to go behind game rules for them. especially before we even hit max level !

I would add further that DPS Meters mean that as a Healer I've been kicked from groups for the lowest DPS and the Highest Healing, then kicked from groups for too much DPS and not enough healing.

Quite frankly it does my head in. Not to mention the fact that all the extra add-ons give unfair advantages.

Why would people actually search or even read anything? Just make another thread that people can jump on and argue the exact same thing as about 20 other threads.

You're everywhere, but yeah. I mean, I don't think it can be avoided. Maybe they have some great idea, who knows.
Considering all you can do with technology, it's not possible to now have a meter. Maybe Steven wants to make it harder for people to get one.

i mean, we know that they'll take action on accounts for using those tools though, so for your X number of days of improvement to get your account say banned of suspended etc.
not worth when you can just self-review without logs

I doubt you have been kicked as a healer for doing the lowest dps.

It is true. I switched to Solo Healing in the game afterwards so it was a blessing in disguise. Can't kick the solo healer ;)

Edit: So I boosted the DPS overall because more DPS could be put in the raid.

While this kind of thing is frustrating, it at least gets you out of groups that are not going g to be successful (assuming the content is hard).

In a game like Ashes, if you are kicked from a group for a reason like that, you have now found a player to not group up with again. Since there are no automated group forming systems in Ashes, and no cross server grouping at all, players will soon realize that the only two ways to be able to get groups are to rely on your guild, or to have a solid friends list of people wanting to group up.

The more you piss off players by booting them from groups for stupid things (combat tracker or not), the fewer groups you will be able to participate in down the road.

Yeah I agree noaani, it will interesting when everything starts for real. The Alphas will give us a good taste of classes, betas an even better taste and then the real thing arrives. Some aspects I find daunting but some aspects do refresh me. It is difficult to wait but sometimes the best things come to those who wait. I love the quote if not the wait.
